longing for some regular old gum

These days it's hard to find chewing gum sweetened the old-fashioned way, you know, with regular sugar...and I wish that was not the case! Why is it they are make so much of that artificially-sweetened stuff? I hate eating things that contain artificial sweeteners...! Aren't those things dangerous to your health...? Do they really need to contaminate every possible food product with this "sugar-free" stuff? I want to go back to the good old days when chewing gum (and other things too) had regular sucrose to sweeten it!!

Yes,indeed there are more foods with sugar-free stuff in it. I think it's with the onset of diabetes that companies are making sugar-free stuff. I searched aspartame in the net and there have been contradicting claims on its safety. Some say they are safe and beneficial, others say they can numerous kinds of diseases.

Yes, you're right. I realise it's all the rave for diabetics and I totally understand their need to be sugar-free and all, but I am not convinced by the safe claims, for one, and secondly, I do believe that the world is still not just made up of diabetics, or pre-diabetics (is it?) so why can't we have the right to choose ...we are deprived of that right, when they don't make the "regularly sweetened" stuff available to us. I might have to start making my own gum! If only I knew how to!
You know I actually wouldn't mind if they reduced the level of sugar in the gum (without adding artificial sweeteners), so that it is safe for diabetics...I know most of the regularly sweetened stuff has way too much sugar, but if they just reduced the amount of regular sugar, wouldn't that help?
