My work situation

I am so frustrated with my boss. He usually works hard for us but the last couple of months he has been doing this less. In June, he had me take off three days because according to our policy we can't carry over vacation time after a year. Ok so I use the three days he asks me to. He then calls me up the Friday of the same week that I have just taken time off a tells me that I need to work and that he will make things work out in the end. I figure ok no big deal there is a clause in my employment contract saying that since I work in a business where the boys have to be watched they can force us to work over our 40 hour week. He made it sound as though I would get paid overtime for these hours for coming in. Instead he takes off my vacation time and I lost it. I was not paid overtime because I had taken time off during that week and somehow they amnaged to take away the overtime from the week before as well. Now this week on Monday my boss calls me and asks if I will work Saturday. I said that if I am still feeling alright that I would be willing to do that so I had volunteered for it in a way. I ended up with strep throat on tuesday and Wednesday and running a 100.8 or a littl higher fever for most of both days and calling in sick. I asked my boss if I could get out of working on Saturday so that I could get fully recovered from my sickness and he said no. He really needed me to work. So I will be working on Saturday, even though I will only be about halfway through my run of antibiotics. My throat at this time is still swollen and I am not feeling the best so it might put me in the hospital but since I volunteered for it BEFORE I goty sick he will not let me out of it. I will not get paid overtime since I was sick for two days so basically he has managed to screw me over again. I would quit but I need the employment so that I have insurance so that I can even afford to go and see the doctor at all when any of us get sick. Am I just imagining it or is my boss really starting to be a jerk lately with my work hours?

You are right I do need to talk to him. I get very tired of being called in at the last minute to cover for somewone else and then feeling like I get nothing out of it.

Being a supervisor and in middle management before; I have one question for you which is; does he have a boss and could he be getting flack from higher up? I worked for a company when money got tight they put pressure on the bosses, which turned them into bast*&ds. I inturned had to treat people horribly at times because of what was dictated from higher up. I do not know how they can take away your overtime for the first week, the second week when you came in during vacation, I have one word of advice for you is have everything in writing before starting your shift next time. Never assume anything. Bosses tend to promise you the moon to get you to come in when they are short handed, once you are they they change their mainds. I can see how you did not get over time for the third week because of your call in days, to be honest he should not have called you in and ask you how you where feeling if he needed you. He just should have said, "Luintaurine I am double checking that you will be here on Saturday because we really need you or just never said anything." When I was working I did not call every employee to see if they where coming in everyday. I figured if they where on the schedule then it was their responsibility to come to work. I feel your boss is leading you on for some reason. I wonder what is going on from uptop. He may be getting a lot of pressure to cut overtime, or to get production costs down. Good luck and I hope you are feeling better

He is probably hearing stuff from over his head as well. My problem with this last time is the fact that I told him that I would be unable to work on Saturday since I was sick and he informed me that I needed to come in anyway even though it is on my weekend. There is definitely something going on but I think that it is coming from over his head. I do think that if they don't start treating their employees better than they do, they will lose quite a few of them.
