My sister's wedding shower

On July 22, 2007 we did finally get to have my sister's wedding shower. It started at 1pm. It was my sister Tierney whom the shower was for, me, my mom, my sister Dani, my grandmother, aunt Joy, and aunt Dee in attendance. My cousin Joey came on his lunch break since he was angry and couldn't stay at work. The first game was the clothes pin game. Each person got a clothes pin and if you caught someone else crossing their legs then you got to take their clothes pin. When the shower was over the one with the most clothes pins won a prize. My aunt Dee and I tied. The next game was to bake a cake without any recipe from scratch. My sister had several different ingredients and even some that were not supposed to be used in the recipe. She chose to make a chocolate cake . She started by having my brother start the oven at 350. Then she put in 1 and 1/2 cups of flour, 1 cup of sugar, 1/2 cup of cocoa, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of baking powder and mixed it all up. Then she mixed together her wet ingredients: 2 eggs, 1/2 cup oil, about 1 teaspoon vanilla, and 1/2 cup of milk. She mixed all this together and it looked about right. Then she put it in the pan and my brother took it to the oven for about 30 minutes she thought. She the attached picture for my sister trying to make the cake. On to the spice game. We had 11 spices set up with the labels covered and they were each numbered. The idea was to smell each spice and guess what it was by smell alone. The one who got the most right was the winner. Non of us got over 5 right. The last game was the memory game. Dani went around with a tray that had various items on it and the guest wetre to look at the items on the tray. Then Dani left the room and mom told them to write down everything that Dani was wearing while carrying the tray. I thought that my grandmother was going to get up and slap my mom. The looks she got from them were almost enough to kill. It was quite amusing. My sister Tierney got the most right. At this point it had only been about 12 minutes since we put the cake in, but Tierney decided that it was time to check it anyway. She and my brother went to check it and brought it back with them. It was done. At this point we also brought out the real cake mom had bought for the occassion. Before this everyone thought that we had to eat the cake that was made. We did try that cake as well as the real cake. We also made punch with sherbet and 7up. Tierney's cake came out more like brownies in consistency but she bakes more brownies than cakes so it was the consistency she was used to. It was very good though. Everything went very well and we all had a lot of fun. It was a wonderful family event. It ended at right about 2:45pm so it wasn't very long but still we got a lot done.

She does a lot more cooking than I do. I could never have made the cake from scratch. I couldn't even identify most of the spices in the spice game either. I got garlic and cinnamon right.

It sounds like you had a lovely time with your sisters shower. Your sister Tierney must be very familiar with the kitchen to bake a cake with out any recipe and have it come out eatable. The games must have been a lot of fun as you described themI especialy like the switch your mom made with the memory game I'll have to remember that one for the next shower I'm involved with. By the way how is your throat? I hope it is feeling much better.

She is a very good cook. I loved that little twist to the memory game as well. I thought it made everyone think for a little bit. It was a lot of fun and I think everyone enjoyed it. My throat is just getting to the point where I can swallow again and I am working a 47 hour week this week on the overnights.
