I have Vonage as my telephone service, it works by having its modem hooked up to my cable internet modem and gives me phone sevice using that internet connection vs. a landline. It has it's pros and cons, the good thing is that I get free calls to all of the US, Canada, Puerto Rico and most of Europe and really cheap rates to the rest of the world. You get to pick your phone number or move your existing number and can have a phone number from anywhere in the world. For instance, lets say your family lives in another country, for an extra $4.99 a month you can have a phone number that is local to them so that they can call you for free! Having vonage has saved me a lot of money, my long distance bills used to range from $100 - $700 a month and now all I pay is $29.00 (taxes inculded in that) a month and I get even more services then I did with my landline. You can even take your vonage modem with you when you travel or a special little modem phone they've got and you'll never miss a call no matter where you travel to. Hmm... this was going to be a rant because I'm having problems with my Vonage modem and my Comcast internet not playing nice together... turns out it's just that Comcast has crappy internet service. But I realized that Vonage isn't the problem, my ISP is. The only downside to vonage is that when your internet service is out... so is your phone service. So the best bet is to research your internet service provider before you sign on with them and then if it's a good provider then you should have no problems at all with Vonage. Well, if anyone would like to sign-up with vonage, send me your e-mail address via private message and I can then send you an e-mail from my vonage account and we'll both get $49.99 worth of service which means 2 free months! If you already use Vonage, what are your pro and cons for the service?

I tried it and didn't like it. I have wireless internet and use Yahoo to make calls when my cell phone is out. I had a lot of trouble with Vonage and their customer service - especially when I went to cancel. They were trying every trick in the book to get me to stay and when I said, "Why didn't you give me help like this from the start?" .. they had no answer for me.

I almost cancelled and then they offered to send me a new modem, which they did, and it helped out a lot and I've had a lot fewer outages. The main problem for me is that my internet provider sucks and has the worst employees ever.
