So I am babysitting for my sister and her daughter who is almost 8 months old was on the floor sleeping right next to me just now. Well, not only had I left her sesame street music video playing on repeat out in the living room, but I also clearly wasn't paying attention, because I looked down to check on her and she had disappeared! Fearing the worst I ran out to find her (not in the hall, the bathroom, in her mom's room) but sitting out in living room watching her video as if she had been there all night! Why is it that at this age they can somehow be so very quiet when they are up to no good? And also manage to appear as if they are just little harmless angels? If I had walked out any later I am sure she would have found the dog food and choked or gotten ahold of an electrical cord or climbed into the fireplace! What to do with such a spoiled rotten kid...

I don't think children know they're being spoilt rotten at that age :) I'm not sure why they're always so quiet when they're getting up to no good - my daughter is the same, you know she's up to mischief when you cant hear her banging toys, killing things etc! I also think it's because they don't know they're doing something they shouldn't be at that age - i guess her going to watch her movies is just something she always does so she didn't think it was naughty! I dunno, kids are pretty weird sometimes but they seem to know what they're doing most of the time!

My mother has told my sister and I many times about the intuition she developed as a mother, how she was always able to know what we were up to, even if she wasn't looking at us. She told us that as a mother it was the only way she could really survive, since it would be impossible to watch us 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for the rest of our lives.
