We live in the South, so there are lots of pests like wasps and yellow jackets out and about during the summer. And, though I'm sure they serve a useful purpose in nature, most times they are just plain pests and sting way too much for comfort. I'd like to get some suggestions on how to get rid of wasp nests under the edges of the roof. I don't want to go swatting at it with a broom and then have angry wasps flying out at me from every direction. Any ideas? Which product do you use for this purpose?

As odd as it sounds, a mixture of dish soap and water (one to one) works to get rid of them. You will have to knock down the nest or any honeycombs that they have built but do that a few days later. Use an old squirt bottle or something that will hold at least 16 ounces and squirt the mix into or on the next / honeycomb. Be sure to close windows and bring pets indoors before you do this because they will be displaced and not in a very happy mood lol.

There are some good wasp and hornet sprays on the market. When you do want to work at them, do it early in the morning when it is very cool. When they are cold, they seem to be groggy and don't fly very well or fast. That's the best time to swat a wasp nest down. Soak the nest with spray, knock it down and spray some more. Have as much skin covered with multi-layers, gloves, and a net over your face if possible. That should protect you.
