We finally got our first storm of the year here in Minnesota. I tried like heck to get a great shot of lightening as it was so cool looking. But this is the best that I could do. It happened around 3 a.m. Saturday morning. We had a heavy downpour which we desperately needed, had 65 mph winds also blowing a few branches off my trees. We had nickle sized hail which I didn't photo as it was too bad to go outside with the camera. But anyhow we got our much needed rain. The winds destroyed a few of my garden plants. All but one stalk of corn got blown over. Bummer. Oh well. I'll be cleaning the yard and garden and roof today it seems. Just wanted to share this photo here. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I can't believe that this is your first storm this season. Wow. From the photos you've displayed here, it looks quite spooky. I'd be running for cover if I saw that one coming. Any tornados down your way?

No tornados or funnel clouds spotted. But we did have winds 50 to 75 MPH. A lot of trees uprooted and roofs tore from buildings. I lost one medium sized branch and lost 2 planters of petunias off my deck was all. So it wasnt too bad here. There was a tree that was 175 years old about that got uprooted. The news showed the root ball as the tree was on its side missing the house and parked cars. It had to be about 25 feet in diameter from the pics on the news. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I'm glad to hear that no one was seriously hurt, Grandpa Bob. You've had a lot to deal with in your area, with the bridge collapse, and storms like this. I really feel for those families that are still awaiting news of their loved ones.

Thats not a bad picture Grandpa Bob. I don't really like storms but I am glad you finally got some rain. Thats too bad about your garden but I know that will not get you down.

Clouds - Kind of eerie looking clouds just before the storm got really bad here in Minnesota USA 8-11-07.
We've got another bad storm brewing right now also. All this rain is hampering the recovery of bodies/debris in the Mississippi River from the brifdge collapse as well. Here's a great yet eerie looking shot of some clouds before the storm got really bad early Saturday morning. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Thgis is a good photo of the storm brewing. I rated it & wrote a comment. I love a good storm, despite the disadvantages. We haven't had an electrical storm for quite some time. Not much rain either. How does Buster go withy the hail & strong windfs? Is he scared? Our Dalmation is terrified of storms.

Eerie Cloud Formation - Another eerie looking cloud formation
He hates the rain period. If it storms he will sit on the back of the couch watching it. But he will hold himself as far as the bathroom act if he has to when it's raining. HAHAHA! Thanks as usual for the rating and commenting on my photos. That's greatly appreciated from me. Here's another shot also. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Oh no--- Can you pick the corn?? I know you said it was looking ready to pick and eat- or did you already pick it? Stinks when storms take out the garden plants- but like you said you needed the rain- I love the slow and steady rains- and not the windy all at once storms- That is what happened to our zucchini plants- a while ago a storm took them out- everything else was fine though!

I picked it wed or Thur night I think. We ate it for dinner Sunday. It was sooo sweet and juicy. Going to make an area for next year to grow maybe 20 or more stalks. HAHAHA!!

That's an awesome photo! I love the onset of storms. The sudden coolness of the front moving in. The quick darkness setting in. The anticipation of the pitter-patter of rain. That's the part I LIKE! Now, the winds I coud do without!!! I'm glad you finally got some rain up there, though. We've had more than our share lately.

Blue/black Sky - A great shot I think for 3 a.m. and no flash
Yup. Everytime I'd get comfortable because I couldn't see any lightening then suddenly the sky lights up like mad. Grrr!! But I sat on my driveway for a long time getting shots. I also have some from tonights storm clouds for a discussion another time. Meanwhile here's a shot when the clouds were a very pretty blue from a shot in some electrical spot somewhere near me. I love this blue sky picture. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Can you send that rain back down here to us, grandpa Bob. We are dying for it. Hottest, driest summer I can remember.

Hey Bob, I'm glad you got your rain. We need some rain here, too. It has been so dry. The leaves are just now starting to turn yellow on some of the trees, and it looks so weird, like it is too soon. Hey I see you are from MN, I sure do hope you did not have any friends or family in that bridge accident. I hope your garden plants will be ok. You should post some gardening advice and tips, I would love to learn more about gardening. I want to have my first real garden next summer and I don't know much. Take care! gemini

That is an awesome photo hon! But of course, your pictures always are terrific. They've had stories on the storms going on over your way on our local news. I wouldn't mind some of that rain coming this way, but you can keep the wind and everything else that goes with it. I'm such a wimp when it comes to storms! LOL

Yes you needed the storm and no you did not need all the disctuction that came with it. Oh well at least you got the water which was needed. Here in Central CA we did not even get our 50% of average rain and snow. I hope this next winter we get what we need plus. Great photo I rated it

what a coincidence! we had a storm last night as well. Just as I was contemplating whether or not to close all the windows in the house, the rain started falling. Red sky at night shepherds delight. and it was really a very reddish sky last night. There were a few bouts of lightning and thunder before the rain actually fell as well. So by the time the rain started falling in earnest I had already closed all the windows and was feeling snug and all set for bed. this morning the air was totally fresh and cool, which is the best part of having a storm at night.

Loved the shot and rated it :) Even though at times i am frightened by storms I like the colors it produces in the night sky, but there are nasty things coming with storms, like the hard winds, or eggs like balls falling down and destroying plants and windows, cars and whatnot.
