I also suggest the book "Thinking in Java" by Bruce Eckel 3rd edition, but you can also use the Sun tutorial that you can find in the Java site.

Khalid Moughal is a very good book. Then you ahev Dietel and Dietel and several other online doccumentations which are available on net which you can use. I think Java is a ocean, the more you learn, the more you feel to learn more. I think it is the most interesting langauage.

I think that ... "HEAD FIRST JAVA " is the best of all books.....even for JSP,Servlets,EJB etc., v have several kinds of books from HEAD FIRST ...U can go for those i think so. Because ..this is the book which gives the detailed view with diagrams....etc., explanations....FAQ's ......tips...etc....

Java How to Program (7th Edition). This is a very good book for the Java beginner. The best feature of this book is that it provides a lot of sample code, and explains the code line by line, so you can understand the language grammer and problem solution much better. I used this book as my first Java book and I do not feel difficult the first time I study using this book.

You can start Java learning using either books or by joining a JAVA training course offered by some provider / institute near you. The book I would like to recommend is "Java How to Program" from Deitel Prentice-Hall. Make sure that you are getting Sixth Edition or higher. This is an excellent book to start with. Good Luck!

You can also learn it online from some online tutorial besides reading books too.
