True story: This lady has changed her habit on the hand phone after her handbag was stolen. Her handbag which contained her mobile, credit card, purse..etc....was stolen. 20min later when she called her hubby, telling him what happened. Husband says "I've just received your SMS asking about your Pin number. And I've replied a little while ago". When they rushed down to the bank. Bank staff told them all the money was already withdrawn. The pickpocket had actually used the stolen hand phone to sms "hubby" in the contact list and go t hold of the pin number. Within 20 mins he had withdrawn all the money from the bank account. Moral: Do not disclose the relationship between you and the people in your contact list. Avoid using names like Home, Honey, Hubby, sweetheart, Dad, Mum etc..................and very importantly, when sensitive info is being asked thru SMS, CONFIRM by calling back.

it seems like with the growth of technology, the intelligence of our criminal on how to use this technology grows also. It's really important to check and confirm first before giving vital information in sms format even with our closest family. It is better to be very careful nowadays because we could not really tell how criminal minds work.

You have given a really important information to all the members of mylot. We just cannot say how our secrets may come out. We got to be very cautious, especially with money matters. Even otherwise its not safe. The incident which you stated is such a pre-planned one. If she haden't called her husband they wouldn't had known about the theft untill they had checked the account. SMS can be also used to kidnap someone...We really got to be extra careful. I always carry my mobile or even wallet in the inside pockets; if I am in trackpants. Its the safest.

That's silly. My mom and dad are listed as "mom" and "dad" as well as "parents" in my phone. HOwever, my parents a/ don't know how to use text messaging and B/ don't even know my pin number and wouldn't tell me something like that over text messaging. It's always amazing to me that things like this seem like common sense to me but isn't to other people. It's a shame there isn't a class on common sense that you can be taught. there are classes on how to avoid things like this happening though and maybe more people ought to be taking them.

Hi touchnshine! I used to put SWEET HOME, LOVE, DAD etc... in my phone too and what is worst is I put my pin codes in it too. Hubby found out and told me to delete the pin codes and so I did...I memorized it now. LOL! With the names, I have already changed them because I heard about that incident too. ..except for the SWEET HOME and LOVE and DAD, now I think I better change it. Thanks for the reminder. Have a nie day and take care.

I would hope if something like this would happen to me my fiance would realize it would be silly of me to ask for my pin in a text message, but some people dont think at times. It is crazy what people will do for money huh?
