Tired of what happens when you ask a simple question?

First, please read the enitire discussion. : )
Now, what I'm talking about is when you ask a simple question, where the answer is of their choice, but within a certain range. For instance, if I asked what kind of food do you like? And someone replied something like, junk food is awful and you should never eat it. Fat people eat junk food and they are a strain on the health care system.
Now, see how ridiculous that would be? Once again it is an example. But I've posted several discussions where a person goes off on a tangent. It's a simple question, with no world reaching undertones. Can people just not be a good sport and not go off into what they think is moral correctness?
Have you had trouble like this before? It doesn't ruin my day, but I just notice it more often now.

AmbiePam ,I'm sure that you'll end up giving me a negative for the response I'm about to give ;However It needs to be said :
It is tiring to see the type of posts that you refer to as simple questions. How can anyone care or respond intellegently about whether or not they prefer blueberry or apple pie for example. What a complete and utter waste of time and space here on MYLot.Do you prefer COKE or PEPSI! Who gives a Da**?
We have such a wonderfully diverse culture here on MYLOT that I think more salient, interesting discussions could be produced. We have such a terrific opportunity to bring our various cultures together in understanding. If only those types of discussions were brought to the fore.
Have you noticed that a great many people have left the community that we once shared? Why?Because they went to seek higher ground.
sorry if this is the type of thing that offends you but various opinions should be excepted and respected.

I think you missed the point of my discussion, but you are an excellent example of what I'm talking about. I asked a simple question and got a big bunch of nothing I asked about. I don't rate people negative for speaking their opinions. But it would be helpful if their opinions were on topic. People don't like the discussion? Don't go into it. People want to talk about politics and saving the world? Start your own discussions. But don't bother pushing rubbish on the rest of us. Now, you may rate me negative if you wish. : )

The post that prompted me to write this discussion was not on pie tastes, or food tastes. There was every indication of what exactly the question was, and a wide array of answers were given. But three people turned the discussion into something way far out. They did not add value. When a question is asked in life, no one just goes off into far far away land. They answer it. They put their own spin on it, but they answer the question.

I did not miss the point that you were trying to make.the point I was trying to make is how to frame a question in the post that could involve a better response.Rather then ask "What type of pie do you like?"Ask How ingrediants do you use to Make a pie? What I am trying to say is before you ask a question think about a way to frame it so that more people can become involved in a response and provide VALUE to the discussion.
p.s. I don't negate discussions.

This is kind of funny! Even this simple discussion as seemingly taken people to places it didn't need to go! Must be human nature!

Amber,That's what happened to me.First,I have only been posting here a few month's,therefore I do not know what what asked before I was here. And it take's alot of time researching the back discussion's.Plus,I want to know what my friend's thought now,not a year ago. Some of my friend's my be newer then Iam. A member complained to me that this question had been asked about 500 time's and that person did not like that.Excuse me,but then why go into my discussion then?I mostly just respond to my friend's discussion's that I feel interest's me and that I have something to say or if I see a new discussion on the front page when I come in that catches my eye with intrest then I go to it,read and respond.

I know it happened to me on mylot but I just can't find the topic to show you. anyway it happened to me in real life and now I just don't feel like asking this person anything not even if it's important. I asked a simple question and it takes 3 months to answer. this person said the answer was written somewhere how come I didn't see it, I said where was it written and they didn't show it. they were trying to turn a simple question into making me look stupid, and made them look stupid and careless instead.
No it didn't ruin my day either, I ruined their day real good. now I'm not bothered taking care of their needs anymore. let them find out what they need themselves.

haha, i think its just a sign that people want to make their replies meatier, longer, etc. because it would probably get them more points. not bad aims, although there is that tendency, as you said, to get sidetracked and fly off into various directions with their answers. i do that sometimes, although now i try to tone it down a bit haha! thanks!

I cant say I have ever had that happen to me but I know what you mean.
If the question requires only a simple yes or no response, why go into an explanation?
If you had asked do you like coke or pepsi, you dont want to hear about the cost of soda these days and how much sugar is in it.
Just a simple coke or pepsi response is all you wanted.

I've had that happen in a few of my discussions, and I've noticed it happening more and more on the rest of the site. It's so silly too sometimes. It's like some people just don't want to keep things nice and simple and upbeat. They just have to muck it all up with complicated responses and temper tantrums.

Besides being kind nowadays, people are also more helpful and caring. LOL. In my opinion, any discussions is open to diverse response and is not restricted to answering the topic itself. A good discussion like this allows people to express their thoughts and feelings and this makes the discussion more interesting though it risk running out of tune. I would be more tired if everyone responses with the same answer, direct to the question ;D

No, don't think I have. But I have had some get off the subject. There was one where I asked there was a certain group of people here and I got hit hard that what I said was wrong.. I didn't ask them if what I said was wrong, they got off the subject completely..
