Do you get better tasting pizza if you order online?

I've noticed that our local pizza place delivers better tasting pizza whenever I place the order online. I'm not sure why. Whenever we go to their place to pick up the pizza, it always ends up tasting old and stale. I've always thought that perhaps they have pizzas already made up and just give those to people that walk in. Maybe it's their way of unloading unwanted day old pizzas. What do you think? Have you found delivery pizza to be fresher than times when you pick up the pizza yourself? Why do you think they give the fresher pizza to delivery customers than anyone else?

I haven't noticed a difference in the way it tastes. But we rarely pick up pizza and take it home. We usually either actually eat it at the restaurant, or we had it delivered when we lived on base. Now we live too far away to get it delivered. :( I think the first poster had a good point, though. It depends on how you transport the pizza. When we bring leftovers home when we eat it somewhere, I put them in the fridge and we eat it cold, or if my husband is home waiting for it, I pop it back into our oven for a few minutes. Because it's not really great tasting when it's just been sitting out for a while.

That's a really good point! I had not thought about the pizza getting soggy on the way home. Especially if one has to travel a good distance from the pizza place back home. Will keep that in mind next time.

I've ordered online, over the phone and in person; can;t say that any of them tasted any better because of ordering a certain way. Then again, most of the local pizza places are pretty bottom of the barrel - canned sauce, frozen shells and cheese that has so much oil in it, it literally slides off the pizza if you don;t let it cool off to room temperature before you eat it.

I think it's the psychology of having someone make your dinner whilst you've got your feet up watching the TV. Food always tastes better when someone has made it for you :) Good luck, Cheers, p. www.AddAnImage.com

I do not get pizza very often, because I make my own..But I do understand what you are say..But maybe it could be that you are sitting at home waiting for it, so it tastes better because you didnt have to go out and get it...lol..I honestly do not know.

nah, the freshness is all in the way you carry the pizza home. When its delivered, its kept in a hot, insulated bag that ensures it stays fresh until it gets to your door. When you go pick it up, its just in the cardboard box, and generally placed on the cold car seat, cooling the pizza quicker. If you want the pizza to taste fresher when you pick it up, warm up a blanket before you leave home, and place the pizza inside the folds of the hot blanket instead of just on the car seat.

Restaurant supply stores sell the soft hot carrying boxes that most pizza shops use. If you do a lot of food runs or find yourself hitting the drive thru on the way home, they are a nice investment. Most places sell them for $15.99 to $19.99

I was thinking about that just yesterday when I went to a Dominos store and asked for a pizza. The place seemed so sad, so unhappy, so "no-pizza" place. I think it is better when you get your pizza at home. Too bad they don't deliver to my area :(

I don't think so. I always think the taste will be the most delicious when you are eating in the pizza restaurant. The delivered pizza doesn't taste as well as it. I am not sure why. Perhaps it spends some time delivering to your house and therefore the taste will be less attractive.
