Muslims want single Islamic state

Over 100,000 Muslims have attended a meeting in Indonesia, calling for the establishment of a Caliphate. This is an Islamic state where Sharia law is in force and it would be instead of separate countries or states.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/6942688.stm
Hizb ut-Tahrir is the group which has organized this meeting. They are banned in many countries throughout the world but not in the UK as it was deemed that there is not sufficient evidence to take such action. We are told that experts in this area believe that Hizb ut-Tahrir's claim to be in favour of the establishment of a Islamic Caliphate through peaceful means to be a smokescreen.
Personally I find the idea of a Caliphate to be alarming and retrograde. Women's rights would be trampled upon and society within such a state would go backwards. Sharia law is detrimental to everyone's well being in my opinion. Also, a Caliphate's aim would no doubt be to expand. The idea of a Caliphate should not appeal to any right minded people.
Ideas?

i agree however unfortunatly most folks choose to hide thier heads in the sand and with this they will do nothing untill it is too late it scares the he** out of me to think that people who claim to love freedom will do nothing untill they become enslaved!

Yes i agree on the question : what can we do?
I would love to hear a few suggestions here.
You know how to re organize so many fanatic groups that rule a country or countries?
I know that all of us do not want fanatic people to rule the world.
I do respect every religion and i am speaking now about fanatic in general.
I would like to hear about solutions you can think about.
I know i have thaught about it alote, and did not really find any solution

The best and probably only thing we can do is make people aware. Most people especially here in the U.S. are so far away from religion and what's going on in the world they don't understand what is slowly happening.
Here in the U.S. we can write to our representatives in Washington and vote for the presidential candidate in 2008 that understands the importance of this issue and puts it first and foremost because nothing else will matter if we are all forced to convert to Islam.

Sad, isn't it? What is sadder is that they, for the most part, haven't even been educated on their religion or sharia law, which would erode all their rights. I worked with a girl whose father was the local religious leader, and she didn't know half as much as I do about her religion. many muslims are spoonfed only parts of the quran, the parts that make it seem like a good religion to follow, and actually told not to read other parts. many Muslims that support that kind of state have only a grade school education, at most, and only know what they are told. And if a calipfate is is allowed, they will get even less education than they are allowed now.

I suppose, though, if it does, at least the rest of the world will knowwhere to nuke to get rid of the worst of them. Of course, they will insist on Mecca and Jerusalem as being in the middle, which won't happen

Personally, I think we have enough problems of our own to worry about without having to go looking for others, bk. But, what does anyone care about what I think?

The problem already came to us when they attacked the World Trade Buildings. It came to us when they were planning to blow up Fort Dix and many other times. It's coming to us, why wait until someone has a knife at your throat telling you to "convert or die"? Why wait until we are like the U.K. and we don't feel safe at all anywhere?

give them the caliphate to congregate in, so you know where to find them when you need to.

indeed. However the Caliphate is by nature expansionist. It doesn't take Einstein to work out that the eventual aim is for the world to become the Caliphate and for everyone to become a Muslim. Historically, Muslims have no problems in spreading their faith though the sword. I know that the answer to that will be that Christians may have done the same, however the difference between Muslims and Christians is that there have been several revolutions in Western lands, intellectually, gender revolutions etc. Whereas largely speaking Muslims have remained in a state of intertia...

I have no idea why you brought this up in relation to my post, but in case you don't know...Israel is a tiny country under constant threat from its not very friendly neighbours. There aare many religions who are citizens there, in fact the Muslims and Arabs who are there generally enjoy democracy and freedom (unless they try to blow Israeli's up or something equally stupid), something in short supply in many countries under Sharia law.

"Unfortunately, the Palestinians had been there for centuries. I'd get a little bent if some foreign government came to my home and decided that another country should be established there"
Jewish people have lived in Israel for millennia. A large portion of the immigrants into Israel came from Arab countries such as Tunisia, Morocco, Libya, Lebanon, Yemen etc. They left these countries and entered Israel as they were being persecuted in their countries. They never got any compensation from the countries they had inhabited for centuries, either for the property lost or their relatives killed. These people just got on with it unlike the Arabs who call themselves Palestinians who blame the Jews for all of their problems when in fact the majority of their problems have other causes, but thats a discussion for another thread. Palestine was never a country even. I have sympathy with some of the Palestinians as their situation is terrible. But they keep ruining it for themselves...most recent example was voting in Hammas.
Best thing that could happen would be for the Pals to renounce fundamentalist/political Islam and embrace equality for the sexes and different religions.

But the Muslim claim to be descended from Abraham is regarded by scholars as bogus.

Anyone ever thought of just letting Muslims be? History shows that every attempt of an outside force to conquer, influence, or change them has been futile (Crusades, Moro-Spanish Wars, War on Terror). If there are Muslims who want equal rights and better living conditions, let them initiate that fight themselves. Every time an outsider tries to proffer a solution to their social ills, it is construed as an attack on their faith. Better let the call for a revolution come from within.

Will the call for change ever come from within? As other people have pointed out most of the chanting people in these rallies are under-educated and there is a general belief that the Quaran is the absolute truth that cannot change with time. I am happy to let Muslims be but wherever they go to Western Countries they despise our culture and human rights and demand islamic rights in their chosen country. It is indeed something to worry about and caliphates have been established and banned in many countries.

The change will never come from within. I went thru the article in BBC and was not surprised to note that most attendants were women. In Pakistan, recently after the Lal Masjid was bombed by the govt and the women’s college disbanded, girls went back to their village with the thought that their only aim in life was to spread the shariat among women in remote areas. I believe muslims are a gone case…no problem in that , the only thing is they are dragging us down too for no apparent fault of ours. The western world has not doubt bitten off more than it could chew in muslim nations, but common people all over the world are paying a very heavy price for it.

As far as I'm concerned all of the conflicts you mentioned were a united fight against Muslim offenses or conquests.
Why let dictatorships oppress and resist freedom while just rooting for the good guys? Especially when it hasn't happened yet and we're talking about prevention.

What has the Indonesian govt done? Anything concrete or precious little? If it’s the former, then maybe there is hope, but if it’s the latter, then like all politically correct govt responses, they wash their hands off matters which are likely to affect them badly in the elections. This is the misfortune of our generation. We are so much into human rights, media rights, political rights, freedom of expression etc etc., that most of the time the right to life and liberty is lost. It is then that such retrogressive thoughts and ideas germinate and people become courageous enough of doing almost anything in order to establish their supremacy over others. Islamic aggression is nothing new, nor are all muslims to be branded fundamentalist, hell-bent of establishing the shariat. Years of hood-winking by powerful nations for their own greater interests (oil being a major reason) have infused blood into nascent islamic movements which today have taken alarming proportions throughout the world. Its now when such double-standards have boomeranged, do nations sit up and take notice and brand such movements as terrorism. But its too little and too late. Muslims by nature are both regressive and aggressive. In a sense this is true, as history will prove that muslims were once the most advanced form of civilization in medieval times. They were leaders in warfare, art, culture, architecture, cuisine, trade, education and what not. Somehow after that, they lost their way and drowned themselves in complacency. They forgot to evolve. Their realization now, that they have somehow missed the bus and tremendous frustration arising out of it, has somehow given rise to a perverted anger within the community and they believe that it would be possible to re-establish the Caliphate, which was the golden era of Islamic history.
From the beginning of modern history itself they should have been dealt with correctly …respectfully and cautiously.

Oh!
I'm not aware of Hizb u Tahir group, and I don't know their nature. Continuing Indonesia as a Secular democratic nation is still fine. 86% of Indonesia are Muslims and I don't find wrong if they establish an Islamic govt though, but it should not be like Saudi Arabia, it should be based on the actual Islamic values and treat other religious followers with respect and do not impose personal Islamic rulings towards public, only social rules can be implemented as public.
In fact Islam do not tamper woman's rights, Islam gave life to woman when Mohammad came the people were burying the new born girl babies alive! and girls were shame for them, Prophet Mohammad changed those attitude and gave similar rights as man.
If the govt is going to be in the hand of terrorists of extremists it is indeed a problem, if so it is better to continue the secular democracy. And there is no problem to Muslims to live in a secular country.
