Is it just me or is the world getting worse?

I despair reading the news. It seems there are more wars, hardships and suffering now than there ever has been. There is less tolerance betweent the major religions, more suspicion, more people ready to kill themselves and others to make a point.
On a smaller, more individual level it seems there is so much child abuse, animal abuse and dischord in sociey. But perhaps in this case it is just that there is more reporting of such events. But I do think the world is getting worse. Sometimes I wonder why I brought my dear son into such a world.
Please tell me I have got it wrong...!

It's easy to perceive that things are worse now. We have instant access to news from around the world via the internet & TV. But I don't honestly think it's any worse now than it ever was, just that we see it sooner (& in graphic color pictures). Even when the world was filled with primitive hunter-gather cultures, neighboring tribes fought for hunting areas or control of other resources.

You definitely have it wrong. That kind of thing has always been going on, its just now that the news has turned into tabloids and has chosen t sensationalize every little thing that happens. Really, there have ALWAYS been wars, and abuse and murders, Its just that now, when we live in an age of instant contact, we hear about it all, not just the worst.
