How do you know if your nose piercing is infected?

I have had my nose piercing in for about almost 2 months ago and well i think its infected now. The whole area is sore to touch but not really red. I know when the puss comes out its basically dried tissue the body is trying to get rid of. I had to squeeze the piercing a bit for the puss to come out. I dont want to loose the piercing but want to make sure before i cut the nose ring out. I guess my piercer bent it to much and well the nose is too thick to fit around the bend.
