I used to buy my Buster the basic rawhide chew toys for him to clean his teeth and exercise as far as for chewing etc. Now my wife had a coupon for $1.50 off this treat. I think it cost $4 so it was cheap as far as the amount it was totally. Now this is not a rawhide treat. It's just like a milk bone kind of. It has the same ingredients in it basically. sAME SHAPE AND all except its chewy not crunchy like milk bones. It's called Chew-Lotta. and made by Meaty Bone. The bones are offered in small med and lrg for the size of your dog. It says lasts 30% longer. It seemed these lasted him more like 50% longer than normal rawhide etc. If given a chance get these for your dog. Buster loves these and won't be getting a rawhide anytime soon as this is his new fave treat. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I do not feed my dog rawhide becusse they can splinter and cause internal damage. Instead, I cut a carrot into chunks and freeze it. This is good for their, teeth, full of vitamins, keeps dogs occupied for a long time and is much cheaper than rawhides. My dog loves carrots.

Buster - My shadow fell into the shot. I avoid this type of pic usually. Oh well.
I've never heard of this little trick. My beagle loves veggies and fruit so I may have to give this idea a shot. Thanks also. Here's a phot of my Buddy Buster. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Greenies are the toothbrush shaped things right? If so I've gotten mine already and they are very costly also. Thanks though.

I haven't had a dog for years, so I hadn't heard all the fuss about rawhide chews. I did wonder one thing while reading the posts though. Do these new synthetic chews go all pink and slimy (yuck!) like rawhide when Buster's been chewing on 'em? If not that's one distinct advantage!

Actually I've never found any of his rawhides when he got them. So I have no idea what they look like. But he devours everything so I find no scraps of anything from Buster. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I actually got some of those for my big dog, Buddy. Either he chewed them up really fast, or he has them hid somewhere in the back yard where no one can find them. I know he loved the taste of them, because I sat outside with him for the first ten minutes or so while he chewed away. But I swear he is the "chewingest" dog I have ever seen, so it wouldn't surprise me if he worked his way through that thing real fast. Heck, even my CAST IRON sprinkler has teeth marks on it from him trying to chew on it. He actually succeeded in denting it up a bit. LOL

this made me think - why do dogs need to chew bones? is it like babies when they teeth? they need to chew something so that their teeth can emerge more easily? but I'm sure dogs don't chew for the same reason. they have extra jaw energy that they need to expend? doesn't it give them lock jaw or make their gums hurt?

I never give my dog rawhide bones on the adice of the vet. Instead she gets the Nylabones that are supposedly indestructable. Not really, but one bone will last for about a month. They're kind of expensive ($15 for the X-Large) but she seems to really enjoy them and after hearing horror stories about the rawhide I feel much better!

I am not familar with these new treats. Our Dalmation loves the rawhide too. He camn woplf it down very quickly. Our little mini fox terrier doesn't know what to do with the rawhide treats. She fiddles with them, but doesn't eat them. Would rather chew on lemon bits!

Both of my dogs love those! Neither of them chew stuff very often, but they both NEED to, because of their teeth. We bought them each a big rawhide bone for Christmas in 2005, and when we were moving last month, we found over half of one still left, if that tells you how they feel about rawhide. lol We bought them some of those Chew Lotta's, and they each ate one in a matter of about 2 weeks. That's pretty fast for both of them. Normally they just get bored too fast with chewing on stuff. We are at least lucky in that they don't chew on things they aren't supposed to, either! Our smaller dog will chew noses and eyes off of toys if our toddler leaves them out, but otherwise she leaves everything alone.

Petie has problems with chew bones, or even milk bones. He wants to bury them he walkes around the house for hours until he finds the right hiding place. He will even whine when he cannot find just the right place. LOL I feel so sorry for him I stoped giving them to him. He never would chew on them. I have found them all over the house, under my pillow, in my yarn, and there has been times he has found them years later. Poor miss guided boy if he would just eat them they would just disappear. LOL
