Stopped by the police while someone is driving drunk

No this have never happened to me- Once I got a call in the middle of the night- My boyfriend at the time was not home- out partying- It was the state police- asking if I could come pick him up and bring another driver with me- He was stopped for drinking and driving- Must be he wasn’t at the limit because they let me come get him and take him home- and a friend to drive his truck- what an idiot- I should have let them haul his butt to jail- This has been 11 years!

I can't say I've ever been in this situation. I was a bartender for many years and I can usually spot when someone is toasted over their limit even if they don't really act like it. There have been times when I let someone drive when I knew they were slightly over their limit and then regretted it later because of "what could have happened" but thankfully we've never been stopped. Whew.. :D

Actually yes. However, my friend and I were both completely drunk. On our way home we'd both had to go to the bathroom super bad and stopped at a restaurant (24 hour one) pretending we wanted to order something. As we got taken to our seats we said "where's the restroom" and went to the bathroom then bolted. As we were driving back home we got pulled over and we were like "OH NO! We ran out of the restaurant!" ha ha and were totally freaked out even though it had nothing to do with that. My friend was like "i wasn't speeding omg!" we were driving by a hospital where the speedlimit is only 30 and she was very aware of NOT going over. So we get pulled over. She's freaking out. We're both freaking out cause I was drunk and underage and she was drunk and driving. Cop comes up to us and is like "do you know why you got pulled over" she's like "No?" and he says "You aren't wearing your seatbelts" ... she had automatic seatbelts but they were broken..the shoulder part didn't work. So she's like "Ohhh they're broken see!" and opens the door on the cop and closes it...to show him they don't move. So he's like "license and registration" but she didn't have her registration. She explained that she'd had to use it the other day and left it at her house and he said "OK" and went back to the car. As we're sitting there freaking out "Does he know we're drunk?" ANOTHER cop pulls up and we're like CRAP! Originally cop goes to her side. The other comes to my side and says "what are these handcuffs for?" and we look at each other wide-eyed and said "Uh? what?" and then my friend realized that she had fake handcuffs on her rear view mirror. So she laughs and says "oh a halloween costume years ago." and he's like "they look nice" and tells her she has to get her car fixed giving her a work order and a warning for not having the registration. Wishes us well and both cops head off. We were so relieved! I have known people who got DUI's and I had a friend who got off of a DUI only because he had a friend who wasn't drunk in the car and the cop made her drive...but still screwed my friend with over $300 worth of tickets. It's so dangerous... people behind the wheel. Drunk or sober. People can be idiots on the road.
