How do you live at peace with someone who hates the air conditioning?

No matter what the weather, it always feels hot to me. I've been known to put the air conditioning on in the dead of winter, especially if I've been cooking. But, noone else in the house feels hot except me! And, now that we are in the middle of summer at the hottest point, that is still true. Seems I am the only one in the house that gets hot. My spouse doesn't seem to be too affected by the heat. And, my toddler doesn't like the air conditioning at all. She would just as soon run around in a hot house all day long. It does not bother her one bit!
But, it's torture for me! I can't stand the heat. How do you live in a house with people who love being hot, when you can't stand it? How can we find a happy medium ground so that everyone can enjoy living indoors, especially during the summer? Any suggestions?

I guess it might not really be a happy medium, but I just tell my husband to grab a blanket. lol I dress my son in jeans all year round when we are going to be in the house. If we are going outside, I change him into shorts, but I like it to be cool enough in the house, that he needs long pants most of the time. He wears warm fuzzy jammies most nights, too.
As for my husband, we don't sleep at the same time usually, except maybe an hour or two in the morning when he first gets home, if I'm sleeping late. He sleeps with a comforter, and I sleep with just a sheet. I run our air conditioner or a fan all night long most nights.
He knows better than to say anything about being cold if I'm cooking. And I spend most of the rest of the day down in the basement, since it's where Elliott has the most room to play, and it's where my computer is. It stays around 60-65 degrees down here. My husband uses a throw blanket if he sits down here for long without doing anything. lol

That sounds like heaven! I wish my house would get that cold. During the winter it's easily that temperature here. But, since our ac has been acting up it's been hard to cool anything with the heat wave.

Pretty difficult situation, both for you and the family. One thing you can do is to put the AC in full blast (lowest temp) and then when the rooms have cooled to a tolerable level (your tolerance) then reduce it to fan or maybe increase the temperature level. Like this you will have your cool rooms and the family will not have to shiver. Of course you will have to keep the doors and windows shut, for the effect to last long and your child cant just run in and out of the house.

You sound like my hubby. (: I absolutely hate the a.c. but living here in Oklahoma where it will prob. be 100 degrees at least today, It's a must, especially with two small children. We find compromise.. We usually adjust it so i'm a little cold and he's a little warm, i'll throw on jeans and a tee shirt and he'll put on some shorts.. At night time, I dress the boys warmly, and grab an extra blanket for myself. When the hubby is at work, I turn the air down, and in the morning, before it gets too hot, I turn it off alltogether. My hubby loved it when I was preggers, as I was constantly hot. (:
I would suggest, asking the spouse to put some more clothes on and dressing the kiddo a little warmer and turning on the air. Try to set it to where you are comfortable, but not your ideal temp, that way your not freezing the rest of the household. Compromise.. it's easier to add clothes then to have to walk around the house naked because your so hot.. (:
Also, you could have certain times that are Air-free.. for your spouse.. that way theyfeel like they are being accounted for, during the morning hours, when it's not really too bad, you could just use a fan.. and during the late evenings too..that way your souse sees that you are considering their feelings and wants/needs.
Good luck. Hopefully things will cool down a bit for you.

In my opinion, kids are not really bothered about heat as long as they are enjoying themselves. I am just the exact opposite of you. LOL.
At my home, it seems that I am the only one who is not bothered about heat. My mum, my sis, brother they all need the fan to be at full blast all the time if not the air conditioner. As for me, at most I wear a sweater if I am feeling cool. Alternatively, I would just go out of the house to enjoy the natural wind. As for your case, perhaps you can have a room which is air conditioned with an air filter, leaving the rest of the house with either a fan and windows and doors opened for fresh air.

Uhg...I know just what you mean! I'm a little different than you, it's extreme temperatures in either direction that bother me. I'm always freezing all winter long and roasting all summer.
We haven't found a happy medium yet. When I'm sitting there dripping and miserable he just takes his shirt off and acts like I'm being over dramatic. I've found that I love ice packs and wet towels and LOTS of cold water bottles. Sorry I can't be of more help!

Aargh I hate the air conditioning on and my husband loves it. he is a lot like you and can't stand the heat and always has to have it on. My son likes it but does get cold sometimes. I FREEZE with it on and find myself wrapped up in a blanket all the time or with a warm top on. Just a few minutes ago i went and turned it off because I was cold sitting here typing away and answering discussions LOL
When he is off at work, its off and I have the patio door open. When he is home after work the aircon is on until the next morning when he leaves. That seems to work for us. In the weekends I have no choice as he gets grumpy when its too hot and I don't want that. I would rather put on another layer to keep warm thanhim be grumpy all day and all night LMAO.
