Who was your favorite Merv Griffin guest?

Even though I'm way too young to have seen the Merv Griffin show when it first came on, I do remember some of the reruns that played later in the 1980's. One of my favorite celebrity guests was a very young (and not at all crazy) Tom Cruise. I suppose fame went to Tom's head in a bad way. Another soon to be celebrity that appeared on the Merv show was Tom Hanks, way before his star went super nova. That was back when he was actually still trying to be funny. So, who was your favorite Merv Griffin guest? Did you get to see any (now hugely famous) stars in their early years? Could you tell that they were going to be super-famous?
