my husband and i are trying to teach our two year old how to say please, thank you, excuse me and sorry. so far, the only word she refuses to say is sorry. she shakes her head every time we tell her to say sorry for something she did wrong. is this normal?

Yes it is normal for a 2y/o to refuse to say sorry. It may take time. Don't worry your child is normal.

Yes she is quite normal. Sorry really is the hardest word and I still have problems with my kids at 6&5. It is thouroughly commendable that you are teaching her such valuable life skills and sorry will come in time. Have you tried explaining to her WHY she should be sorry rather than just asking her to say it? Perhaps she just needs to understand a little more about the concept of sorry and why she needs to say it as please, thankyou etc have quite obvious reasons.

thank you for the tip. we did try to explain to her but i guess it's still hard for her to understand the reasons behind saying sorry. sometimes we just find it so funny when she stubbornly shakes her head and says that she won't say sorry. i'm glad that she's normal. i thought for s second there that we have a problem child. THanks
