question for linux users

when installing ubuntu, is there anything i need to do to prevent it from overwriting windows, or will it just install alongside windows as default? i've found a website which explains how to install, but i get confused when it talks about partitions. any help would be much apreciated.

Hi, Can you briefly give the current partition information of your Hard disk?How much partition you've and on which partition you've installed Windows and on which you want to Install Linux..?As of now,without this information, no one will be able to guide you precisely and explaining the installation process with an example will be more confusing for you. i like linux i also user linux but i prefer like PCLINUXOS.. this program very god and very fast.... you can download free.
