going to a restaurant 101

You know what drives me crazy? I work in a restaurant that will remain nameless part- time. It's things that people do when they come there. Some people are so rude when they go out to eat. I'll go up to a table and introduce myself and the people at the table will completely cut me off. How rude is that? 1. If you don't want to socialize with people when you go out to eat why don't you order in? Have they heard of take out or delivery? I don't think so. It drives me nuts that stuff that people do. Like letting their kids run around the restaurant. Excuse me but this isn't Chuckie Cheese, it's not Discovery Zone, if you need your kids to run around take them to the park or Sports World. Also some people get so ticked off when we run out of kids menus with the crayons for coloring...It's not our job to entertain your children. If it was I'd be getting paid for it not waiting for your tip. Also I go to bathroom when I work and while I'm in there do you have any idea how many women go to the bathroom and don't even wash their hands afterward? It's nasty and I'd say 1 out of 3 women in the bathroom wash their hands. Were these people ever taught hygiene? I don't think so. My biggest pet peeve is the people who don't tip well. Is a 20% tip so hard to give. Do you know that most servers get paid 2.13 and hour and we need your tips to actually make money? I hate that people come into a restaurant and won't even tip 2 dollars for every person at the table... are you that broke? If you are maybe you shouldn't go out to eat. Once I had a party of 20 and they left me 7 dollars on a 200 dollar check. First of all 20% of 200 is 40 and 2 dollars for 20 people is 40.... so let's do the math people. It's ridiculous how people don't care that I'm busting my butt to give them good service. I'm a good server and I'll tell you this right now. I only give bad service to the people that are rude and obnoxious to me.

I have never been a waitress but i did work at the mall at a food stand and I must say - when it comes to food people get crazy..lol..especially at Christmas time...working the mall in food service at that time of years is nuts...I've had people screaming at me -, cursing at me - they even threw food. So I can relate to your situation in a way. When my husband and I go out we always tip well- I have a couple of friends who are waiters and waitresses and i know how little they get paid and how depressing it is to get such small tips after working your butt off all night.

I don't work in a restaurant, but I hear you. When I go out, I am polite to my waiter/waitress because it is their job to serve me and I get better service when I am polite..Besides, it is the right thing to do, to be rude is wrong to anyone no matter what position you are in. I also tip at least 20% and I will tip more if the service was really good. As for the hand washing, that is gross...
