Really bad hair experience!

Along time ago, I tried to perm my own hair and needless to say, it did not turn out well. After the allotted time with this horrible smelling stuff on my hair, everything looked fine, but once my hair got dry it stuck out in all directions. My hair looked frizzy and puffed out all over! What a nightmare! I hid my hair under a baseball cap for two months until I got fed up with it and cut it off. Once my hair started growing out again, it looked completely normal, but I'd definitely learned my lesson. No more home perm jobs! Ever! Just curling irons for me now. Of course I can add that botched hair job to the really bad hair dye job that I gave myself when I was fifteen and turned my hair bright orange in an attempt to bleach it blonde. So, what's the worst thing you ever did to your hair? Have you ever tried to perm or dye your hair and done such a bad job that you had to cut it off? What's your worst bad hair day experience. Please share.

What's the worse thing I ever did to my hair? Depends on who you ask. If you ask me, I say getting it cut in typical boring styles so I fit into the workplace. If you ask friends and family, they'll say any attempt to grow it out or make it different.

Growing it out is really the worst, especially if it's been short for a long time. When I do that, it always looks weird and feels strange. But, now that my hair is longer, I don't notice the strangeness anymore. I've heard that the average hair can only grown one half inch every month, so I'm not eager to cut it all off like before. It took two plus years to grow back!

Two years!? And I thought I had bad hair problems. I just cant imagine it. Usually I'm under the clipper every month. When I tried growing my hair out it took 5 months (might be my diet doing it). Well, if anything, the old adage with hair is "it always grows back". So I may try again sooner than everyone thinks! Ha ha!

Lol…I have never tried to give myself a perm- I can’t imagine what it would look like when I was done! : ( I have colored my hair many times and still continue to do so- I even cut my hair from time to time- but I leave the perms and styling to the stylists. So nothing really.

Yep! It was a disaster. Wish I'd gotten video of it, then I'd upload it to You-tube and it would get a billion hits a day! It was too funny, just not for me.

I actually never gave myself a perm or colored my hair when I was younger. I went to cosmetology school when I was 20, so since then I've colored and highlighted my hair and had my mom help me do a perm once. Since I was using real professional products (the stuff I used in salons, not just junk that claims to be professional quality), it's always turned out okay. My hair doesn't do so well with perms, though. I have to put A LOT of gel or mousse in it to get it to look right if I am going to leave it curly. Otherwise I can just brush it straight and not use anything in it, and it still looks as straight as ever.

Yeah, it's been years since I did the home perm job. Didn't try it more than once though! I really learned my lesson.

Unfortunately I am not as gamed as you are by doing something like that to my own hair. At most I would dye it but if it meant perming or straightening it, then I would get it done properly. I can't imagine doing what they do in a salon with permed hair at home.
