Self-Employment costs personal money but gives perosnal freedom. Employment by others leaves you to focus on the duties given to you and make as much money as they are willing to pay you. In the long run you may find you make more in Self-Employment but have less headaches with Other Employment. I think they have there equal qualities but since i am self-employed I'd have to go with that.

Hmm, see I THINK a lot of that depends on 1) the business type, 2) the business model, 3) the management of the business. What kind of business is your brother in? What kind of backgroudn does he have in business management? If you don't mind me asking.

What about time with family or time for yourself? I was thinking with other empoloyment it might be easier to schedule family outings and the like becasue it si a more set schedule. What do you do? How do you arrange your schedule?
Thanks for the answers. They will really help us when the time comes for making a decision.

There are a lot of advantages to being self employed, in that you get to keep your own hours and are your own boss.
However, I like the fact that I don't have to provide things like health insurance and have help with my retirement.

How long have you been self-employed? Could you better cover your own health plan and retirement in a different kind of self-employment? What do you do? What about fluctuations in the market?
Thank you for the response. Each answer will help a lot when we sit down to plan. Right now I am in favour of self-employment and my husband is firmly against it, so we need to make sure we have all the facts for both sided.

Ahhh, I see. *nods* You also could get benefits (depending on the job) like vision, dental, and tuition reimbursement.
Definitely something to take into consideration.

I'm currently employed and though I am a branch manager, i can honestly say that its still cant beat the idea of working from home. Me and my bf is planning for to work from home, therefore, we are now selling stuff at eBay (coins, ebay business trend analysis report for eBay sellers.)

I have a friend I worked with in Austin to get his ebay business up and running. He makes okay money and gets to set his own schedule so it isn't half bad. Again though the drawbacks are no benefits.
