How much milk your kids drink daily ?

How much milk do your kids drink daily ? Sounds silly , but important for me . Because , we don't give our child (4+ yers of age) milk . This is according to the advice of the paediatricians not to offer milk to children . When I asked she adviced to substitute milk by other sources of protien like eggs , banana , pulses but never to offer milk . Initially i thought my child had some liver problems . But i heard the same advice of a forum of paediatricians in a seminar organised by a Maternity & Child Care Hospital in my city . And that was public , open for all . We have been hearing and reading that milk is one of the best foods containing protien , calcium and many other rich ingredients . I wonder why paediatricians advices so . Can you give me some clues from your experiences and your doctors' advice ?

I don't know what country you are in, but in the US, & I am in an area known for it's dairy cows, the chidren who live in these farms have grown up on pure milk, not pasteurized, & they are as healthy as you can get! Tall, no broken bones as kids, healthy people. I drank about 3 gallons a week while pregnant, not because I thought I had to, but because I craved it. I still have all my teeth, & no broken bones...well, one toe, but I hardly count that! My son is 13 & taller than me, almost 6 feet, healthy, no cavities, strong, & he has been on milk since he was 10 months old. (He drank mother's milk before that.) I don't know what problems your cows have for the Dr to say not to drink it. But, in general, I think your docs are very, very wrong, & your kids will suffer for it.

My son goes thru 2 gallons of milk a week now, & I think it is good for him & he can drink all he wants! Better than soda & these new 'waters' coming out now!

I'm only seventeen and I don't have kids... But if I think a bit I'm a kid and i drink a lot of milk...It depends of how much milk I buy daily, because I drink all the milk I buy in the morning during daytime.I drink aproximately 2 liters of milk a day :D

I've never heard of this. We drink a gallon of milk a day on average between myself (a nursing mom), my 2 and 4 year old sons, and their 17 year old brother along with whatever is used in meals that the other family members eat. I know it isn't impossible to get the benefits of milk from other sources, so maybe that is what your doctor is meaning. I don't see why milk should be forbidden though. unless yo child has a milk allergy thee is no reason I can think of that milk can't be used along with all the other foods to provide a healthy, balanced diet. The only thing I have heard concerning milk in older children is that some doctors recommend switching to a low fat milk after the age of two rather than whole milk. But even this is primarily for children and families who have a history of obesity. All of my children have had whole milk from the time they were old enough for milk. I don't see anything wrong with it. Ask your doctor WHY she doesn't want you offering you child milk. If she lists off the substitutions again, ask why you can't give your child milk along with the substitutions. As a parent you deserve some straight answers.

I don't know where you're from but i'm in Australia & Dr's here recommend you give your children cow's milk after the age of 12 months - it helps with strong teeth & bones. I'm not sure why you would be told other wise, it does sound a little odd. My daughter has 2-3 bottles/suppy cups of milk a day as well we juice or water. It's not going to hurt them to have milk - it helps them to develop well & stay strong inside! I don't know if maybe your child has an intolerance to milk which could be why they told you not to give it to them but as far as i know & have been told by my midwives & dr, milk is kind of something children need to develop healthy. Maybe you need to find yourself a new paediatrician & see whether they give you the same advise or different advise - it cant hurt to get a 2nd opinion :)

My son is three years old. Since he already goes to the kindergarten, so he won't have milk to drink at noon. Therefore, at present he will drink milk twice everyday. He will drink milk in the morning and before going to bed at night. Milk is a very important food for children. It is so healthy and helpful. I will let him drink the milk until he grows up. It is not a bad thing at all. They need more nutritions to grow up.

My pediatrician never advice me not to let my son drink milk. He drinks milk 2x a day and 3x at night while he is sleeping. He is just a year old baby but I also ask my friends who has kids from 4 years old, there pediatrician never advice them not to let their children drink milk. Here's what, as a parent, what do you think? I do believe parents knows best for their child. Its good to ask some advice but in the end you need to decide. Observe your child and check out if your child needs it or not.

It would seem that the pedatritions in your country are ahead of the Dr. and pidatritions here in he western world. Milk is full of Bovine Growth Hormone and this affects the growth of our children milk can also cause ear infections and is linked to insulin dependent diabetes, This is only one web site about the harm of milk. http://www.mercola.com/article/milk/no_milk.htm

I have never heard of a pediatrician advising a parent not to give his/her child milk unless the child has allergies. Milk is by far one of the best sources of Calcium, vitamin D,protein, and Vitamin A. Make sure that your child get his/her calcium from other sources such as supplemental vitamins, cheese, and yogurt

My doctor always adviced me to give my kids milk after they were a year old. It has always been recommended as a source of vitamin D needed for strong bones. My girls also always ate eggs, fruits etc. but i have never heard of the theory you are talking about. My girls always drank milk with their meals and had it on their cereal along with a variety of other healthy foods.

Hi, well i had also heard about this and a lot is going on regarding this topic, but somehow my heart never felt it all to be true, so i do still give my kids milk as i believe that its a complete food, and nothing has ever gone wrong with it, as weve all grown up having milk too, so why not to give it, i havent found a real solid reason not to. Yes i know about it containing the bacteris etc, whatever, but all those are alright for the body i guess, thats the reason we are alive and kicking well. And somehow all other foods the child never readily accepts at that small an age, unlike milk, which kids take in various forms easily. i find no harm in giving them a combination of maybe a glass or two of milk per day, along with the other normal diet and healthy food.

To be honest, I've never heard such a thing before. In fact, quite the opposite. The more milk a child drinks the better because it's really good for their growth and their teeth/bones which makes them stronger. I'd sure like to know what the reason is for not giving them milk because that's so bizarre.

I am a mother of a 5-year-old child. I make sure she drinks atleast 2 glasses of milk daily, one glass in the morning and the other at night. Drinking milk daily has been a practise since my childhood and I personally dont find anything wrong in drinking milk. I heard from a couple of my friends too that now a days paediatricians tell parents to avoid milk. My heart just does not agree and I continue to give milk to my daughter as well as I drink it.
