How credit card hacks can be prevented?

hi friends,does anybody from you knows the ways to prevent credit card hacks??please share your knowledge with me..i got my card hacked this july while i was making a purchase on amazon.com..i purchased one of my course books for 700$ and after 20 days we got a letter from the bank with bill of 9050$..somehow we got to manage the loss via our insurance and through bank help by providing the necessary information and we had to pay only 200$ extra..we got our transactions checked and they were from some proxy site whose address we could not find..i have a very good antivirus installed on my laptop..but still how this happened when all the firewall and cheat check facility was there..and moreover amazon showed us Verisign secured transaction or something like that..i have even previously purchased books from there 4-5 times..but this never happened..can anybody tell me what other measures should be taken care of..cause you know at one time or the other we have to do online purchasing.....thanks

The only thing i can think of is not to use them at all. hackers get smarter everyday.

yes you are right..i'll never dare to use them again without having somebody expert besides me..but you know sweecakes sometimes they are required..we cann't help..specially when you have to buy from some other country..most of them do not accept checks..

As soon as I leave my banking site or use my credit or debit card on line, I delete all cookies and files and clear the history. I don't know if this helps or not. I just do it.

no..i have never paid through paypal..i have opened my account just before joining mylot..is it safe to purchase through paypal..why so??
