Combination TV and VCR Help

Don't know where else to put this. I have an old small combination TV and VCR that won't work because the VCR part has mechanical problems and won't play or eject the tape and because of that the TV part won't come on, the whole unit shuts down. I tried to fix it by going in the cabinet and removing the tape cartridge by actually breaking it apart. But it still tries to either play or eject the cartridge when I turn it on and it shuts down immediately so the TV part will not play. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get it to the point where the TV part will play? I don't care about fixing the VCR part of it. Thanks.
