try to download Firetune, is a software that speeds up your firefox...i use it and it's free and fast! download also Fasterfox....search them and install...the configure is simple...

It's not because of your firefox, it is your Internet Service Provider(ISP) maybe the line currently congested or they are having their upgrading and maintenance works. firefox is only a web browser and nothing to do with your firefox. OK to attest it, use you internet explore for surfing...if the same thing happening, means a definite answer is failure happening with your ISP.
