Apologies to My Friends For Being Absent...

I'm sure some of you have noticed that I haven't been around too much for the past couple of weeks. I'm sorry that some of my discussions haven't been replied to for a few days and that I haven't been fully supporting my Friends' Discussions either, but I've been trolling around the countryside, trying to construct a route and a host of interesting clues for the forthcoming Treasure Hunt. I have only a week now to put everying together, so I hope you'll excuse my not being here so much, in support of you all.
I've found out some quite interesting facts that I didn't know before, and I hope that the Hunt will hold the same interest for participants. I'm getting quite excited about it all now it's coming together. For instance, I went to a quaint little church... really old, about two miles from where I live, to discover that a plot of land was bought many years ago by the League of Friends for Quakers. This plot of land, just inside the church gates, is marked by corner stones, and has seen the burial of some 153 Quakers. Wow!!! That's on my doorstep, almost, and I'd never been there! The doors were open, which is unusual in England these days, because of theft, and I wandered in... and apart from some really modern spotlight lamps in the ceiling beams, everything takes you back into the ancient times... there's one old lighting facility there. A chandelier type light... two hoops, the bottom one being larger, suspended from chains, and housing eleven candles in total. That must have been their entire lighting, save for the normal candles which would have been placed in strategic places.
Wow... I'm enjoying all this! Thank you all, for your help earlier when I was trying to come to a decision as to what to do for my charity event this year.:)

I'm glad you let us know where you've been. :) Sounds like you are getting a great history lesson for your hunt. Almost makes me wish I was there with you. (sigh... maybe someday!) I love history, and all the little petty, yet significant details.
The farm I grew up on is only about 1 mile from a cemetary. At the base of the cemetary there are the remants of the pony express (the postal service that ran across the USA in the last 19th century) and wagon trails where the first settlers came into Iowa. Small, yes, exciting, YES!
Good luck with the rest of your hunt. Keep us posted on the fun history lessons you are learning. :)

Thank you, Creematee. I think you ought to talk to Lakota. She said something once about a ghost, related to the Pony Express which went past a relative's house. Very interesting!
I've found another quite significant thing... a village closeby which has a Saxon on it's signpost, his name being the root name for the village. His name translated, is Robert and the other word on the sign means "path". So, Robert's path through Sussex included this village. WOW!
Brightest Blessings.

Thank you for the BR. :) I haven't been around too much lately, myself, but wanted to see how your hunt was going. I'll look you up and see what you've posted lately. Take care, Darkwing!

It sounds like you had a lot of fun doing the research for your Treasure Hunt. What a fasinating place to right on your doorstep. Its funny, we seldom know about or visit historical sites that are in our own area. I live in a touristy type area and I haven't been to most of the places that the tourists go when they visit.
It sounds like your even is going to be a big hit. Best of luck!

Yes, I have had a lot of fun researching. You're right too about discovering little hidden pieces of history locally. I'm really into the ancients and because this church lies off the main track, way out in the countryside, I didn't know of it. We live and learn, huh?
Brightest Blessings my friend, and thank you.

Everyone here, including myself has drifted off and away from mylot at one time or another, i'm sure no one will hold it against you, and maybe only miss you, i know i've missed everyone in my time away, but a certain few a little moreso including yourself.
that sounds like a wonderful church, i would have loved to go and see it, see all the unique old parts of it and what not, for some reason history has always attracted me, have fun hun, and keep exploring!

I'll try to remember my camera next time I'm out. There are some great pics out there waiting to be taken. :)
Thank you for the compliment... I missed you a lot too. Hope you're sorted out now. I think the Summer draws a lot of people away for a break, huh?
Brightest Blessings, my friend.
