Is God's love unconditional?

We are told that we have free will, but do we really? If the only choice is, do as I say, or you're going to burn in hell for eternity, is this really free will? I believe God's love is unconditional, it has to be, nothing else makes sense. The God talked about in most churches sounds like a bad king from the middle ages. I know I'm going to ruffle a few feathers with this one - so fire away.

I think that God's love is unconditional. But as with all faiths we have guidelines to live by. I mean would you really like to share eternal life with the likes of Jeffrey Dahmer or Ted Bundy? As in this life, so is spiritual life, there are guidelines to live by such as the ten commandments. By not living a life that is not christ like, you risk eternal damnation, but that doesn't mean that God doesnt love you. Think of it like this, when your child does something wrong, you discipline them for the wrong doing, but you love your child regardless. Such is the love of God for his children. that is the best way I can explain it. I truly hope I made some sense here!

Hi mamasan34,Thank you for responding. You do make sense, and a lot of people will agree with you. My thought is that God understands so much better than us. He knows all. I agree that there are many I would not want to spend eternity with, but is what we see the real person? Only God can tell that. As it says in one of the psalms, " Shall not the judge of all the earth do right"? Blessings to you my friend.

Pose you are so right about being judgemental. That is reserved for God and I do my best not to. But I have to say I am guilty on occasion hahaha! Thanks for understanding and I hope you find the answers you seek!

God through Jesus Christ showed the world the agape love without any condition.But God acts on covenants.
