My husband who actually works for Customs/Homeland Security is actually the first to say they have too much power - can arrest someone and put them in jail forever if they want - no trial. He doesn't like that aspect of HS. what do you think - where are we headed?

I'm surprised nobody has responded to this discussion yet. It's a really big issue right now (at least I think it is) and you're husband's right. They have too much power and are probably abusing it every single day for one reason or another. I think there should be some sort of guidelines and rules that need to be implemented to tell the HS what they can and cannot do (as if that'd do anything, but just a thought).

That's the clincher, no one can tell them what to do the same rules don't apply to them. They can throw you in jail without a warrant or cause.
I suppose they were implemented for a reason.
