Why are fat jokes funny and cripple jokes not?

The thing that bugs me is that it is perfectly acceptable to make fat jokes and even have whole movies where the fat person, or person made up to be fat, is the but of jokes for the whole movie. Why is it acceptable to make fun of fat people but if a movie came out that was nothing but jokes about a cripple or black person their would be a public outcry, so why is it acceptable to make fun of the obese?

Personally I don't think it's the fat that makes it funny. It's the charater they portray. I don't think a story about a fat person would be funny if it were a serious movie. I don't really think any of the subjects you mentioned are funny if they are only poking fun of them.
