I'm still learning about it.

I went to the doctors for blood tests because i'm losing my hair pretty bad. Rang up a week later for results and to book an appointment, to be told there was a letter in the post regarding my results, that I had to see my doc. Great! first thing taht came to my mind, not good then. So went to docs I originally wanted the appionment to go on the smoking tablets. Went I went in the doctor just looked at me, so I started to explain that I would like to go on the smoking tablet programme. Oh! hesaid , I thought you were here for your results. That too i said. So we went through the programme, for him to give me a prescription at the end for iron tabs 1 twice daily, and vit b12 injections 1 every other day for 2 weeks (6) in all then 1 every 3 months. I asked him what they were for so he told me I was anaemic. Fine I thought, I was anaemic 5 years ago when i was pregnant with my first, I have 3 kids now and that facts never changed. I went for my first jab and asked the nurse how long the jabs were for. She sounded shocked when she asked "didn't the doctor tell you?, I depends if it's pernicious." She then looked on the screen at my file, looked at me and told me I'd have to ask my doctor. Now I startde to feel abit uneasy. When I got home, I decided to lok up on the net, Big Mistake! First thing I read "The definition of pernicious means "highly injurious, destructive or deadly" I booked an appointment with the doc but it wasnt until te following week. My 2nd jab, 2 days later was a different nurse, so I asked her if mine was pernicious, to which she replied yes, and I'b probably be on injections now for the rest of my life. I had to go back and see my doc for my smoking tabs update, so I decided to play dumb and asked "my prescription said i was to have b12 every 3 months after the initial 2 week thing, but doesn't say how long" Well his face was a picture, It dropped and looked uneasy. His answer was "oh, well, erm, well you'll have to have bloods to see and erm, well erm it is possible, well for life" I got up and walked out, Every thing I know about this "erm well for life" thing, I have read about on the net. http://pernicious-anaemia-society.org/ -breathlessness -Tiredness -Headaches -Lack of concentration -Swollen tongue -Pins, needles and numbness -Weakness -Jaundice -Fog days -Vision distortion there's more...... I still don't know why my hairs falling out though, lol x

I don't know anything about the pernicious, but I have been anemic with each of my pregnancies. I have also had a couple of kids with jaundice, one of them had it pretty bad. I only had to be on the vitamin b shots for a few months. I hope that things get better for you.

I hope that you don't get her for a nurse again. I'm not sure if she didn't know what she was doing or if she thought she was doing you a favor by doing it slowly, but in either case, after what she put you through I would request a different nurse if possible. I hope things will get better. I know that those shots are no fun.
