Earthquake fears

A big earthquake hit Lima, the city where I was born a few days ago. I lived in Peru during my childhood and I can still remember some of the earth tremors that I lived through when I was there. Till today I can remember the noise I heard and the fear as the earth trembled under my feet. I think that the earthquake fear must be ingrained in me somehow, as I still wake up sometimes thinking that I have felt my bed and book shelves moving, even though the earth seldom trembles in Austria, the country where I live now. Do any of you who live in earthquake prone countries have the same fears?

hi, very sorry for what happened in Lima.i read it newspaper and have hundreds of victims.i live in indonesia and several days ago an earthquake happened in my city,Jakarta.it wasn't big,i felt my bed was shaking a bit in the middle of a night,i thought it was my husband who played w/the bed.eventhough it was only a small earthquake but it terrified us enough so we ran out side.i can't imagine what happened in Lima with the big scale of earthquake and took real victims..

Thanks for your response. You know what earthquakes feel like because you have lived through them! You probably did the right thing by running outside, the best thing one can do, I guess. My last earthquake was 4 years ago in Santo Domingo and I could see the damage done in Puerto Plata, on the other side of the island when I took my plane out of that city's airport and it was scary!
