What a nice discussion! I love my home country's flag and I also like to hear about other flags in the world... The colors of the Israeli flag represent our praying shawl "Talit". The Jewish people use this praying shawl for prayers every day and it's color is white and blue. This is way the Israeli flag is white with two blue lines which symbolize the "Talit". Also, in the middle of the Israeli flag located the drawing of the Shield of David. Actually, all of the symbols, shape and colors in the Israeli flag represent things from the Jewish tradition which fits for every Jew in the world...

I am Indian like you are but not every Indian knows the meaning of our national flag. It’s not a crime neither shameful, better late than never. So this goes for both you and for readers of this discussion who are from other countries: # The saffron panel on the top of our national flag depicts sacrifice. Its intention is to remind us all of the futility of material attachments and instead to work selflessly for the improvement of this nation and mankind. # The white panel in the center represents peace, truth and purity, both of words and the soul. #The bottom green panels represents fertility and our bondage with our mother earth. We should progress, but not at the cost of the environment. #The Ashoka Chakra, in blue at the center, represents the wheel of dharma and dynamism. India should not stagnate, it should more forward with new ideas and ideologies. Another version (on secularism) is that the saffron represents the Hindus, the green represents the Muslims and the white represents the other minority communities of this great nation. Like all Indians, I am proud of my national flag too but not only for patriotism. I really like the interpretations of this flag and I think there are few other nations in this world, whose flag represents all the religious communities of that country and depicts such value for its citizens.

good question. I don't really know for sure about the red white and blue of the USA flag. I would guess red for the blood shed on the battlefield, blue of the oceans and other waters. maybe white is for purity which was part of the Puritan/religious freedom thing during the revolutionary war. But I really don't know. It will be interesting to read your other responses.
