I just found out that I have a number of registry problems on my laptop. What I don't know is which registry repair does good work. I would appreciate any assistance from anyone who knows more than I do about this subject. Thanks.

I would never trust a registry cleaner or registry repair software. The registry can be a dangerous place for anyone who is not absolutely certain what they are doing, and you can never be certain of any third party software. I have changed a few of the registry settings on my computer to alter the configuration to my personal preference, but I only access the settings when I am certain of their purpose. If a third party program amends the settings then you may be unable to change them back. Firstly, be certain that the registry is at fault. Many sites display false readings in order to promote their own registry software. If the registry is at fault, either use the Windows CD to repair it or simply reformat the drive and install Windows again.

I would have no idea how to do these things, Asylum. I am not very computer-literate. Besides, the laptop I am using is on loan from my granddaughter. Thanks for the advice though.

Go to Registryfix.com. I found this software some time ago. You can download it for free or let their web site scan your system. I have used it on both my laptop and desk top and it works very well. Does it get everything? Well maybe not but it does get most. And it will do other things also. You will be amazed the first time you run it at how many problems you have. There are others out there but I like this the best.

Thank you so much, jbrooks. I think the registry problems have been the cause of other troubles I have been experiencing lately.

You are welcome. Please understand that there are more powerful programs available but you have to pay for them. So, for me this will do. I have run this many times on both systems with no problems. Best of luck to you.

I have scanned with a few different companies and each one of them has come up with different results. It kind of makes you wonder what kind of program any of them are or if they won't do more harm then good. This is a good question Wise1,I hope somebody will have an answer.

Thanks for your response, pismeof. I do have one lead so far. I can always go to Worldstart where I usually get help, but I just thought I'd see if some of my friends here on myLot could be of some help first.

Usually windows operating systems cd comes with some utilities. You can browse your OS cd. Other useful sites are registryfix.com, Never try to alter any registry settings by yourself. It might harm your system permanently and the only choice left in that case is to format your system drive. goodluck!!
