Which medium do you generally prefer to use for writing? What benefits do you find in this? If I'm doing an assignment for school, I rather use my laptop, But for my poetry and hobby-writing, I prefer the ol' pen and paper. I have a collection of notebooks and pens that I take with me everywhere so I can jot down my ideas. When writing poems or short stories, I like to be able to sketch some of the ideas that i can't quite express in words at that time, so having writing implements is always handy.. How about you lot on mylot?

It's great that you enjoy writing by hand, it's definitely an art =]

I prefer typewritten because I can type like the wind. I've always had very ugly handwriting that has gotten worse since I type almost everything so I fear that if I wrote something no one would be able to read it! Sometimes I like to journal in pen and ink but even I can't read what I wrote when I go back and read it. It's bad.

Haha, one of the main reasons, besides enjoying it, that I revert to handwriting all the time is to make sure that I maintain my legibility. There have been a few times when I haven't written anything substantial by hand for a few weeks, and the next time I attempt it (and I do mean attempt), it looks like a 7 year old with dyslexia. =P I love the fact that I can type so fast, and almost get things out as I think them, but I do have this problem of jumping ahead with my hands and I have this massive gap where I forgot to put in entire sentences =P

I'm very much the same. I carry a small notepad and pen with me everywhere, so I won't forget those little thoughts or inspirations that come through-out the day, but if I don't take those notes to the computer every once in a while, nothing ever really gets done with them. I type much more quickly than I write; my pen can never quite seem to keep up with my thoughts. My keyboard can't either, but at least I can go back and fix the typos and add in the missing words etc. The ability to edit on the fly is very handy for me. I tend to spew out the main ideas, and then edit and add to them before posting or finalizing anything. That can be rather difficult, on paper. :-)

I do not write a lot at all these days, mainly just a shopping list...lol..I find it to be quicker and easier to just grab a pen a nd paper and hand write it down.

Well I probably type faster than I can write but the neatness is so much better when typed.

I am using both but I am using more of the modern technology. It is quite so easy but of course for short writing purposes, I am using the manual alternative. There was that time when typewriter was a very necessary tool in the business. Nowadays, it must computer or laptop. Besides, it could save more papers in the process. I believe in the use of modern technology without having to abandon the traditional system we already have. Thanks a lot!

I completely agree - written language was such an innovative system of communication, and to abandon it would be shameful to say the least. I love that I can embrace the old and new, and mix it up - even type up a title, whack on a border and then use it as personalised paper to handwrite notes on =] I still love both of my old typewriters, too, they've got such an awesome vintage feel to them. Thanks for your input, Tom =D

We are on the same boat. While we don't have to forget the usual method we should also take advantage of the modern alternative we already have. I always use pen for some artistic writing and some notes but for long and business purposes, I always use my own laptop, because of great convenience and ease of use. Plus, I could save time and papers.

It is easier to type a long research paper because you can correct your mistakes as you go along and use spell check. School assignments are cool for an older student, but I think younger students need to focus on their handwriting before typing. I agree with you that short stories or poems should be handwritten as well as certain letters to give it that personal touch.

I completely agree about younger students focusing more on their handwriting and spelling without the aid of spellcheck. Also, primary-school aged children generally do assignments based on books, rather than the internet, so there's no real reason for a computer to get involved =] Thanks for your input Ranitam!

For me, the typed word flows more freely, whereas my slow scratchy scribbles are hardly legible... And most ideas are lost by taking so long... =P

Fair enough, I guess it depends on the person, the place and the thought =] Thanks for taking the time to respond.

For college, typed, for everything else, it really does not matter.

I prefer typing all my work because it is quicker that way. I am able to write my ideas on the spot and edit as many times as I want. If I am outing, this is a disadvantage to me because I am not fond of jotting down with pen and paper. But I will keep in mind about my idea, and I will put it all down into my computer the minute I reach home. I write short ghost stories, and if you are interested you can open this url. Maybe you'll like my story. http://scaryghoststory.blogspot.com Have a nice day.

I do a little bit of both. If I am home, I type. If I am on the road, I write with my pen. I usually just jog down groceries that I need, what I have to do, or just ideas that I have for an article. It helps keep me on track, and remember what I have to do. I love typing because I can do it faster, and it seems to catch up with my thoughts. I lost less time waiting for my hand writing to catch up with my thoughts.

I type absolutely everything, but I make corrections in pen or mechanical pencil.
