I had a dog for years and i always had to give him whatever we ate,he was spoiled..After he passed away of old age i now have another inside small dog.I told myself i would never let that happen again, but guess what? My dog begs for everything i eat,he stands there and looks at me ,actually STARES at me begging for anything i have.If i even rattle a sack or go to the fridge hes at my feet begging..His bowl is full and he's not hungry, but i can't eat without him looking at me pityful....Do you have this problem?

yes he does. I used to give in but I have been having problems with his weight so I dont give in anymore. but sometimes I have to go sit outside to eat just because I feel like giving in so it is just easier. when he begs he really begs, puts on a pretty good show. lol.

No I don't because I can't stand the begging eyes staring back at me. My parents do have this problem because my dad is forever feeding their dogs at the table. I can't stand the stares and the begging for it breaks my heart and then I don't get enough to eat. lol I call my dogs in when I'm finished and they can have what ever is left on my plate.

nothing disgusts me more than a begging dog that the owner feeds from the table...and an owner who lets their dog lick them in the face or mouth (dogs eat poop and lick their butt, how gross is that to let them lick you?). both disgust me. My mom has 2 labs, and she is so bad about it that she will save them bites off her plate. She has told me before that she only eats about half of her meal and they get the other half. Then she gets offended when someone says they are fat dogs. After I moved out of my parents house, i got a dog of my own. My hubby and I both promised that we would NOT feed him from the table. Now i realize that dogs are carnivores and they NEED meat and not just dog food, so if i give him a bite of my food, it always goes directly into his bowl. My 3yr old is bad about throwing her food down when she's eating, so he sits there and begs her and it makes me SO mad. I will make him go outside or into the bedroom when he does that. It doesnt make him completely stop, but atleast im not looking at him slobbering and her throwing food at him. Anytime I am in the kitchen doing dishes or cooking, my dog comes in there to beg--even though he knows im not going to give him anything. It drives me crazy!!!!!! But, he's nothing like my mom's dogs, they sit there beside her watching her every bite, slobbering, and waiting for their bite.

Ours beg politely, which is acceptable in our house. I think the dogs will quickly learn to act in whatever way is rewarded. Ours do most of their begging after dinner since my dh gives them leftover scraps from plates before doing dishes! While we eat, they generally lie at our feet quietly, and if they're staring, no one sees since they're under the table LOL! But dogs are pretty smart, so if you don't reward the begging and do reward some other behavior, they will quickly do what you want them to do.

I used to have a dog, he always did that. He was a lovely guy. When your dog is small, you shouldn't give him the food you are eating.Once you give him, he will soon get used to it, he will thing it natural that he can always eat the food that you eat.

My dogs and cat all ask for food, too. They usually don't bug my husband and me, because they get in trouble for that. But they are all three always standing around the high chair any chance they get. Especially if my son is eating something that they think he might not like. And it doesn't matter how many times we tell them to get away, they keep going back. And my son feeds them. SO I guess it will continue to happen until my son is old enough to quit feeding them right in front of us!

LOL I do... and I don't - or didn't. I used to have 2 dogs - only have one now - . Each one of them was very different although I trained them the same way - as much as possible. Tazz is always looking at us with those puppy eyes, even though he's not a puppy anymore and begs for anything edible. Sheba, on the other hand could look at us eating, cooking, handling food and not once will she beg for it. If the temptation was great she sometimes would sit beside her bowl as a reminder that she was there and would like to try whatever food we were handling. But that was the most she would do, and not even much.

Unfortuatelly, my cat has no interesteing in our food. The only thing that attract her is whiskas' pouch food. Fresh fish, shrimp, meat... we have tried everything we thought she might like, and finally we have to believe she's a devout "whiskaser".

My dog doesn't beg, per se. But he knows that if he's well behaved he'll probably get something. So he lays at my feet and just waits. Sometimes he sits up and just stays close. I don't give him something everytime, though -- I don't want him to start expecting it, you know?

Yep I started to have this same problem but I put a stop to it fast at least with me. When he sees me eating he will run up to me right away I tell him to get in his bed and lay there until I am done and than he can have some. He listens enough to get in his bed even though he still stares! So he listens to the rules for me but my hubby just tends to give him what he wants of course!

I never give my pet our food, always special food for dog, home made or from the store. They have their own place to sleep, to play and to eat. So they will never bother me or other person in the house about food.

I do not allow my dog to beg. I dont like it. I make her go lay down while we eat and if shes good she can have whats left on my plate. Dogs do not need to be in your face while your eating. Also I have children and I dont like when she begs them for food or follows them around when they have something. She is not allowed to beg. I started that the day I brought her home.

Dogs generally have the habit of begging while we take food in our house or on the roadside. The greatest thing about a dog is that it never steals food until its master gives the food. This is exactly opposite to the behaviour of a cat!

I have cats and they pretty much leave my food alone, it is my milk and butter they go after. If I leave the butter on the counter without the lid on I come home to tongue prints in the butter. If I am eating cereal I can't turn my back or one of the cats has her face in the bowl! Pets eh!

i think every dogs will do the same thing.mine as well.anything that i eat they will sit and just stare at me (or at the food i eat..i don't know) but i always give them a little but continously..but not all food i give to them.selected ones.something like chocolate or spicy i won't give them. because according to my vet chocolate is bad for dogs.could poison them.sometimes i give them fruit also like papaya. they really love it.

I got 2 Cats ,a male and a female. When we're eating, the male is always asking for food while the female is sit around the table or sleeping on a bed.The male is asking for steak, pizza, spaghetti or lobster..Hes eating like a bear , eating anythings.Sometime when i try to see if the female will eat our food, i give by example a little bit of chickenahd it is eating nothing. Do you think this is a difference between the male cat and the female cat ?
