So, have you ever broken your own house rules or at least bent them for your own convenience? Have you ever told your family not to do something and then turned around and did the same thing yourself? Here's my story of the last time I broke the house rules and why it was totally worth it.
One of my biggest pet peeves are dirty footprints across my nice clean floor. Anyone who has read any of my other posts know how big of a deal this is for me. It drives me nuts! And, my entire family knows better than to track their dirty feet over my wet kitchen floor. Why? Because it makes little foot print mud pies everywhere. And, that means another half hour of wiping and cleaning for me.
And, you'd think that of all people, I'd know better than to do the one thing that bothers me the most. But, the other day just after finishing an hours worth of heavy duty mopping in my kitchen, a thought came to me. It was one of those great, once in a lifetime ideas for a discussion that I wanted to start on My lot.
And, the sad part was, I needed a pen to write this idea on paper. And wouldn't you know it, the only pens we have are stashed safely up in the kitchen cabinet. You guessed it, high above the wet, freshly cleaned kitchen floor. So, against my better judgement, I broke my own house rules and tracked dirty footprints across my clean, wet floor. Ultimately, it was worth it. Later when I finally got to the computer, my notes served me well. Turned out to be one of the best discussions I've ever started.
So, what's your story of breaking the house rules? What were the consequences?

You should be ashamed of yourself! Heck I do this all the time- and then when the floor dries I sweep it again and spot mop. It’s always dirty shortly after that- I want a house that is lived in- I don’t have a heck of a lot of rules in the house- sure no eating on the new rug-- well I did- and I spilled my plate- OMG—I was so mad at myself- I scrubbed and scrubbed and the rug came clean- I’m still taking in a plate of food once in a while- you’d think I learned from

I don't really have that many house rules, so I can't really think of any that I've broken. The floor thing does bother me, but I'm not really too picky about it. I have dogs and a cat, too, so they tend to walk where ever I just mopped anyway. They make a bigger mess than my husband and baby do anyway!
I guess the closest to breaking house rules I get is leaving dishes out. I don't do it very often, but every once in a while if I'm eating something and I hear Elliott calling for me, I leave my food sitting there. Of course the pets get into it unless it is on the table (like if it's by the couch or my computer). So then my husband finds the dirty dishes and gives me a hard time about it since I'm on his case about it so much.

Can't think of any I've made and then broken. Too much of a straight arrow I guess. I'd almost say drinking during the weekdays but I've made no rule about that D
