What does username mean?

What does your username mean. Is it your nickname or simple letters to hide your identity. Does it have any significance in your life offline, is it your real name. Is it the same name you use in other forums or groups that you have joined online

It does mean a lot of things.It somewhat reflects your personality.Some select cheap usernames others serious looking usernames.I use different names for different sites.When the number of signups increases it is a bit difficult to remember all the usernames.So I give the same usernames to almost all of the sites I join.I don't think it has got any significance in your offline life since you are not mentioned by your username but by your real name if both are different.
