How independent is your baby?

My baby is just about nine months and he is very clingy. I do like to spend time with him, encouraging him to walk and crawl and play interactive games that are useful in learning simple concepts - but fun. You know like calling from different sides or having an animal pop up in different places for pattern recognition. Howeveer when I go to clean he has a time limit! The good thing is when I have no chores many times being within touching distance will be enough, other times he wants to be held constantly. Will it have negative effects to continue this in the next few months? What's your experience? My mom says my brother was like this and he's fine now. I on the other hand, although I enjoyed cuddling and being held - could get through the night on my own and play by myself for long period...what about your kids?

I had only one rule about limits on holding babies. Not at dinner. I didn't care if they cried the whole twenty or thirty minutes that I was eating. Other than that I picked them up whenever they wanted. Chores can always wait. They aren't going anywhere.

You're right they're not. Its hard to hear him cry though as I eat! Thanks for your response!
