Is hunching a habit?

While waiting for a colleague at the building lobby, I happen to see many people pass by. I noticed that many people hunch while they walk. And most are young and tall ones, male and female alike, with the exception of some elder ones.
From young, people have commented that I hunch. They attribute it to the heavy school bag which I used to carry on my back. Now that I no longer carry the school bag, I guess it becomes a habit.
A friend used to comment that I am always hunching whenever we met and hey, I would sit up straight at the mention of my name. It is sort of a automatic trigger to correct my posture.
Friends, do you have friends who hunch?
On a personal level, do you hunch or are you not aware of your own hunching?
Is it a habit or is it part of growing old?
Why do people hunch? What makes them hunch?
Any way to stop one from hunching?
Kindly share your views. Thank you.

i have a hunch that taller people hunch. heehee.
well, it's cos they have to talk to shorter people and they try to make the short people feel better about their lack of height. are you tall (more than 1.75?)?
i think those who work bent over something (like hawkers who are continually chopping) also get hunched. for office workers, if the computer screen is at an ergonormic height then there should be no hunching.
I think people hunch as they get older too. something to do with weak bones and calcium deficiency. It's quite sad to see old people with pronounced hunches.

I think it is a habit.. as I used to see it as poor posture, when I was growing up.. but nowadays, I really do think it is the heavy backpacks.

Yeah, I always wonder about that myself. The funny thing is that my husband hunches too and I find it to be fun because he is 6 feet 4 inches tall. I think maybe as older as we get we have to hunch because that is the direction that we are heading anyways.

Hi whyaskq! I do think that hunching is habit forming but there are some people too who were born with their bones kinda curved at their back. I used to be sitting and standing in a correct posture, my mother used to always call my attention when I was young to sit up straight or stand with my chest out and tummy in. However, now that I got older when I am sitting infront of the computer, I find myself hunching and my hubby is always telling me to sit up straight. I guess, I have to be aware of my posture. Take care and have a nice day!
