I tend to use garlic salt in just about everything I cook. Depending on the dish, I will add other things as well. Sometimes I add lemon pepper (on baked or grilled chicken). Sometimes I'll use cumin. Are there certain spices that you use in the majority of your cooking. Is it something you grew up with? Is it because you cook a certain type of cuisine more frequently? Or do you use a big variety of spices and herbs?

here in my country, the most popular spice being used for cooking is garlic i mean almost all of our foods we cook here needs that spice... garlic can blend a savor of the food and it lets the aroma smells good.. the other spices I / we use for cooking is onion, i like onions..also with the ginger and chilly.. these are the common spices used in the world of cooking because without them the food would'nt taste so good and well.

I use different spices depending on what I am cooking. There are a few dishes that I make, where I don't use any spices at all. Probably the two spices that I use the most are a season-all salt, and a blend of spices for chicken. I also use garlic quite often, since one of my toddler's favorite foods is garlic cheesy bread. I also use basil, oregano, chili powder, lemon pepper, and a few others that I can't think of right now. I use ranch dressing powder for things like potatoes, or chicken sometimes, too. Usually for most meats, I choose to marinade instead, though.

We use a lot of garlic...fresh and the powdered. We shy away from anything that adds more sodium to the diet so we don't use much salt of any kind..even garlic salt. We have a herb wheel and grow a lot of of our own herbs and then harvest them in the fall. We have dill, basil, sage, oregano, thyme and after they are dried we crush them up and put them in a sealed jar. When we need some flavoring we just take some form the big jar of mixed herbs and add them to our salad dressings, or cook with them in omelettes, chicken, fish and when we do eat read meat which is less often. We have purchased cumin and like the taste of it and curry. So yes, we do use a fair amount of herbs and seasonings depending on what we are cooking. It is not dependent on any cuisine...just what tickles our pallet. Raia

I like ginger too. I haven't used that in a while. I also used to use paprika sometimes but it's been a while for that too. I might go buy some.

I use a lot of Oregano, Basil, Sage, Garlic Salt, Celery Salt, and Lemon Grass. Naturally, different dishes need different spices and herbs. I suppose the spice I use most is mixed spice, in my baking. I love to add it to fruit cakes and carrot cakes... it makes so much difference to the flavour. Brightest Blessings.

It is interesting how the herbs come very popular in cooking. But I understand why, becuase they add great original taste to each food.My favourite herb is basil.I am using it in tomatoes with fetta cheese and it is really delicious. Also I love to add it to a pasta, or salat. On spread I love to use chives. From the spices I love to use lemon-peper for the fish, paprika for the chicken and red pepper to make my food nice spicy. Also I use a lot curry, becuase it has very interesting taste to me. Also I have so many spices and herbs at home and I just try to use all the time something different and try a new ones.

I am from india and adding spices and herbs in dishes is a very common thing here. We normally use home made spices here, i mean we are not into readymade spices although several companies are thriving on this business. I use cardamum, cloves, kari patta, tumeric, ajwain, heeng, dalchinni, black peper, jeera.

I must confess to being a ginger-holic. I add ginger to just about everything I eat or drink. In Australia we can buy jars of freshly minced ginger. The Continental brand is the only one that doesn't add other things and it is just like raw ginger. I use about five jars a week - ginger in my porridge, in my coffee, in my meats and in my veges, in my custard - I don't think there is anything I don't add ginger to. My favourite stir fry is mainly ginger, with red chili, lemongrass and mint.

I absolutely love garlic! I put garlic in just about everything I cook! I am also a big fan of chili powder and rosemary. I love rosemary sprinkled on my chicken and it is also very good in mashed potatos! I also love to eat chives and I put them on salads and on baked potatoes. As you said, lemon pepper is something I love to put on chicken when I grill it! I love to use spices!

I use a lot of garlic powder, oregano, basil, cayenne pepper, paprika, and marjoram in my cooking. I also use black pepper. My father was born in Moldavia, which is just east of Romania, and I also think I have some Italian or Greek in my blood - Kathleen and Katrina are common names in my family background, so that might be why I do a lot of Italian cooking. I am always adding garlic powder and if I was not thinking, I might have something like Garlic ice cream or Garlic dessert.

It really depends on what I'm cooking I think...I tend to add a little of salt and pepper to everything, but also parsley. If I'm cooking an Italian type dinner I'll add basil and oregano. If I want real "zip" to my meal I have a special cajun style blend of spices that's really HOT. For Spanish type cooking will add cumin. I do actually have a wide variety of spices to use
