Disturbing Incident

Something happened in our city that deeply disturbed me even though I knew none of the parties involved. This happened across town, not in my neighborhood. A 71 year old man, proprietor of a neighborhood convenience store and his 53 year old employee were gunned down inside the store in the middle of the day during a robbery. I broke down and wept for these poor victims that I didn't know because it was so senseless. The owner was so well thought of by the people in this neighborhood. His store had been there for 26 years, serving the community. His generosity seemed to know no bounds. Everyone said so. He extended credit to those who couldn't afford to pay up front. These two people were cut down before their time. The only bright spot in this story is the action of a true hero. A young man who lived close by(an Army M.P.) heard the shots and raced out of his mother's house. He tackled one of the perps and wrestled the gun away from him. The police apprehended the other further up the street. I truly want to see these young men brought to justice. The store owner's son said by phone that his father was planning to retire after this year. I grieve for them all.

All of the tragic news is hard to watch on a daily basis, ht. It is so sad that two of the people who were trying to make life a little better for others were cut down before their time.

I'm sure they will get what they deserve, mimpi. On tonight's news they were quoted as saying they just got caught up in the moment.

My heartfelt prayers go out to the families and people effected by this horrible, horrible wrong doing. It saddens me greatly to hear stories of such good people being put through something like this, or getting killed. There aren't many left that would do something like that for their customers, and their reward for their good deeds was having their life ended before it was time for them to go. I can only hope they didn't suffer. Kudos to the young man who helped bring one of the shooters to justice. That was extremely brave, and took a lot of strength and courage to do.

Yes, jeweled, it does seem that our society is becoming more violent with each day that passes. We can only hope that the leaders of our states and cities will put forth more effort in order to bring about a change in these circumstances.

A very tragic story for these two elders. I wonder if these two perpetrators are aware how valuable is these two people they killed to the community. It is just a sad story to hear.

I think that some people in our society are so inconsiferate, rsa, that they never give a thought to the after-effects resulting from their acts of violence toward their fellow man.

True, Thoroughrob. The wolves are no longer at the gate, they have made their way into the town and cities.

This happens way to often. We hear of these things but are not close so we shake our heads at the incredible senselessness of it and go on. When you are close, even if you don't know the people involved it becomes even more personal. There is no sense to something like this. And there is no just punishment for it. For someone to take another life over a few dollars is so unjust and incredibly stupid it defies understanding. For all of us who care we do the same as you did. We weep for the people who's life was cut short only because of another’s greed or stupidity. These guys went from a simple robbery to murder and I for one would never ever let them out. Don't we all wish there were far more heroes and less prep’s in this world.

Thats terrible. I hate hearing about things like this. What was the point of shooting the men? I mean really what harm would they do to someone robbing them? None just give them what they want then call the poliece. I really hope these men are put in jail to rot! They deserve it! My heart goes out to the familys of the inocent victims of a sencless crime.

I can understand how you feel here worldwise - what a tragic story - I can never comprehend how people can commit these crimes! A young boy of 11 was shot and killed in Liverpool yesterday by a suspect aged between 13 and 15 years old! What is the world coming to when a young boy cannot walk home from football (soccer) practise without being shot in the back of the neck by a child, or when store owner and his employee are gunned down going about their daily business? I do not blame you for crying - I do too sometimes! Hugs xxx

I think it is the worst thing ever. To work for your whole life and finish being killed by some loser.

I'm so sorry to hear about this. That is a heartbreaking story. I hope the men who did this are brought to justice too. However, and I'm sure you've heard this phrase, "Vengence is mine, saith the Lord". Even if they die because of this, I believe that will be nothing compared to what they may face in the afterlife. Makes you want to pray for them, doesn't it?

This kind of senselessness seems to be increasing. Agreed, this sorta thing makes one sick to one's stomach. Still, you got to hand it to that Army M.P. tackling that perp. Had it not been for that citizen stepping in as he did, one of those creeps could have gotten away to harm another.

A true hero, either stupd or very brave. How many others would do the same - what if you heard a rape taking place or saw a child or dog being beaten?
