Bosses From HELL

Have any of you ever had, or heaven forbid dO you have a boss straight from H-E-L-L? I had the good fortune of having 2 of them back-to-back; I never thought the first one could EVER be beaten, but was he ever! This guy came to be our new Postmaster and at first he seemed OK, and like I said the guy he was replacing was so horrible we were all ready to accept this one. He came in and said things like "Mutual respect is something I think has been missing here..." so it seemed like things were going to be fine. WRONG!!! He didn't like women in the workplace and he told a new hire that very thing right to her face, so that was my first clue. I wanted to drop my health insurance coverage (part of which I had to pay myself) because I was able to be put under my husband's plan at his new job and it would save us alot of money. Kevin told me I had to wait until my anniversary date to make that kind of change, which would've meant I'd have to pay for something I didn't need for 9 months. He was off on a family medical leave (more on THAT later) so I asked the supervisor who was in his place during his absense, and guess what? You could drop your insurance at any time! Next, there had been some major changes made to our mail routes so they had to be resubmitted for bids; to make a long story as short as possible, due to an employee who was actually below me in seniority but had "protection" because he was our union rep (even though he was out on disability at the time) Kevin tried to twist things around so I'd lose the route I'd been on for over 10 years. If I hadn't questioned the interim union rep I'd have been "bumped" and there would've been nothing I could've done about it. Then, my then 87 year old mother broke her hip and I needed to take some family leave time myself; he couldn't stop me completely but he did pressure me constantly to work a little bit, then a "little more", etc. He also told me I had to use my vacation time instead of my sick time after the first 2 weeks. I believed him but later learned I wouldn't have had to do that. I know this is long, but there's more...I HOPE no one else can beat this a**hole...lol I should mention that in between all of this Kevin's wife was suffering with brain cancer and subsequently passed away. He took all the time off he needed-which is as it should be-while she was sick and after she died. He got as much support and sympathy as anyone could ever ask from his entire workforce, again as it should be, but.... apparently that was all well and good for HIM but not for the rest of us. OK, where was I...lol...I was back working fulltime and still caring for my mom. I'd been working for the P.O. for about 17 years at the time and had used hardly any sick time, I'd been praised as an excellent carrier by both my previous bosses and my customers. I'm NOT bragging, just trying to explain my situation. I really LOVED my job for the longest time! Anyway, I was constantly being followed on my route, ridden like crazy every day, basically treated like dirt. I was taken into the office and written up for "abusing my sick leave" after all those years of near perfect attendance. I was hounded for not being fast enough and when I'd give a doctor's note because of my then increasing back and leg problems he'd always give me a hard time. I was written up because I'd gotten a new pair of shoes and sometimes you need to break them in, especially when you're walking in them 7-8 hours. Just in case, I took a pair of sneakers with me. I was running late on my route and I had a very bad blister on my one foot so I changed my shoes thinking that may keep me from losing even more time. Keven happened to be driving around checking up on me and saw my white shoes; I explained it to him and he said "OK" and I thought that was the end of it-NOT!!! I was written up for wearing non-approved footwear which was a safety violation. I was delivering mail AFTER DARK and wearing white shoes rather than black ones of the same brand and style was UNSAFE??? OK!!!! Near the end of my Postal career I was out with my back and hip for a couple weeks and when I was ready to return to work Kevin kept declining my doctor's slip saying he needed "more info", which is actually against the law. As it turned out I was already scheduled for a vacation right after I'd been out sick and because he refused to let me come back I didn't return to work before going on my vacation. This is where it gets really dirty. First of all, it was very well known throughout the office that I was going to Florida for 2 weeks. Also, everyone who'd ever been in any management position there had my home phone number, my mother's number and my cell phone number and they'd used all of these many times. My brother had come to stay with my mom while I was away and I'd asked him to pick up a paper from my doctor and take it to the Post Office if they needed anything more from me so I could go right back to work when I got home. I checked my home messages from Florida every day, my brother and/or mom were at her house 24/7 and I had my cell phone with me at all times and I never heard a thing or got any messages so I thought everything was cool. I got back home after a wonderful trip with my husband, daughter and son-in-law, and 2 grandkids and a few friends and found in my mailbox the following items: my check stub (I had direct deposit) with nothing but "$0.00"s, a notice that I had 2 certified letters at the Post Office, 2 letters from the Postmaster, duplicates of the certified ones, one telling me that I had until a specific date (when I'd still be in Florida) to provide additional medical info and the other telling me that I'd been placed on "Leave
Without Pay" status because I'd failed to comply with their requests, and a BIG stack of notices from my bank for NSFs, about $2000 worth including the charges! I was screwed because technically he'd done everything "by the book" by documenting that he'd sent a certified letter, etc. Never mind that he could've gotten ahold of me at any given moment and all that trouble...including my "financial ruin" and I'm NOT really joking...could've been
avoided. That was the beginning of the end of my career. Things continued pretty much the same, I got written up for taking an hour off because my grandson had been admitted to the hospital after being attacked by a pit-bull, I was suffering again with my growing multiple physucal problems and at the very moment Kevin was looking at my newest doctor's note and being oh,so nice, telling me to take care of myself and that my health was much more important than the mail, he had already sent yet another
certified letter to me telling me of a "Pre-disciplinary hearing" for abuse of sick leave. Kind of reminded me of how he'd said much the same thing when I needed to be off after my mom's accident! Stick the knife in and TTTWWWIIISSSTTT it. I'm probably forgotten even more happy stories but as it so happened I was given the choice of resigning and being able to finish out using my sick pay or he'd start removal procedures on me and I'd get NO pay until and if it was resolved in my favor and if not I'd lose it forever. I really had no choice but to resign but I'm still dreaming of one day suing the sh*t out of him.
OK, it's YOUR turn; can you top this?

I am working for the same kind of boss. Today I almost walked off the job. But I don't want that on my record. She begins every sentence with I. I really don't think she considers anyone else a real human being. If you don't feel well....she is sicker. She feels like she deserves to have everything and the rest of us......well....we're just her grunts. I am presently in the process of looking elsewhere. I have been at the same place for 22 years, never called in sick....and they still don't appreciate me....

What's with some of these people? They must just love to throw their weight around and flout their authority. I've never had a problem "following instructions" or "respecting authority" but why can't those in management treat their employees with respect? Don't you agree that if workers are treated like human beings they're going to be alot more productive? That's just common sense, which is something else most boss's don't have!
