What would you do if you saw a rape taking place?

What if it was a child being beaten? Or a dog? Do you think a child is more important then the dog - do you think both are none of our business. What if you saw a mom dragging a child along roughly - then when they miss the bus hear her curse out her child, telling her how her worthless child made her miss the bus, and just rude insults?

Hi there. If I saw a rape happening or a child being hurt in anyway, off course I would intervene, because I would feel if I did nothing, I'd be just as much to blame too, where is I could have done something to help or save another person... Off course I would intervene totally... I would also call the cops, and if I had too, I would gladly be a witness as well...

Armtemis, your subject does not match with your discussion? I feel bad, either a child is beaten or a dog is beaten by anybody. I am very soft at heart and cannot bear this kind of activities.

For the rape or the beating of the child I would call 911 and report it. For the beating of the dog, I might talk to the person and if that got no where I would call the police and report animal cruelty. As for the verbal abuse of the child that is a fuzzy line, it really would be none of my business to interfere, but who know what else she is doing to the child. I might call and report that too.

I'd like to think any decent person's first response would be "Of course I'd intervene in defense of the victim" but we live in a dangerous world today with some places being more dangerous than others so it's not as easy a question as it first appears. I'd do SOMETHING though, even if I couldn't do anything physically at that moment. Getting oneself shot or beaten isn't going to help the victim and when you're faced with an obviously violent person you must "proceed with caution". I'd definitely notify the proper authorities-immediately in the case of imminent danger. Annie

If its a rape or major beating, I'd intervene immediately. Usually standing up to the coward is enough to make them flee. Plus I've got speed-911 on my cellphone at the press of a button. And there are times I can draw out a weapon (though not always) depending on the day.
