would you help someone who is being robbed?

robbery - Robbery is defined by the US department of Justice as: The taking or attempting to take anything of value from the care, custody or control from a person or persons by force or threat of force or violence and/or by putting the victim in fear.

This is different from mere theft, where force is not used against you personally, but objects are stolen. In short, robbery happens to you, theft happens to your property. In theft your property is stolen and any damage will occur to it ,or other property (i.e. your door kicked in by a burglar). Whereas with robbery the threat of harm is to you. An example, of the difference is a pick pocket (who takes your wallet out of your purse) is not committing robbery. Someone who walks up and puts a gun in your face and demands your purse, is. In a robbery, you are put in danger.

If you are lucky, you will only be offered the threat of violence.

let's say your in a bus and you've noticed that the person at the other aisle is being robbed by the person beside him/her. what would you do? would you ignore it like nothing happened and think to yourself, "mind your own business"? if that happened to me, i wouldn't really know how to react. for sure, i would be stricken with fear. i would be too scared to go over there and try to stop the robber. he might rob me too, or worse, kill me. i think i would just probably try to familiarize the robber's face without staring at him because he might notice it. then i would report him to the police. what would you do? =)

it depends on if my life were in danger. i would most likely help in some way, maybe by getting the police or something.

Hi josan181237! I guess it depends, usually in buses we know that robbers have some kind of weapon with them, so maybe I will just call the attention of the bus conductor silently so he can probably do something about it. However if it is in the mall wherein there are many securities roaming around, I could always get the attention of people passing by and point out the robbery that is going on. Take care and have a nice day!

yes it's much easier if the robbery took place in the mall. =)

If the person doing the robbing didn't have a weapon and I was on a bus I would probably shout. I would hope the person being robbed on a bus and hopefully it has people on it, would make some kind of noise indicating they need help. I would get up and go tell the bus driver if that were an option.

that would be a good idea if the robber doesn't have a weapon. =)
