Do you think that kids should be required to go to kindergarten? If so should they have to go all day or half day? My kids were ready and went to all day.

Yes, I think it is necessary to kindergarten, because there are many children that they can have fun, so children will not feel lonely, withdrawn will develop character, but I think as long as half a day to be, if it is day, a child should be homesick. Lol. ....

Yes I believe a child should be required to go to Kindy and at age 4 (here is Aus) half days should be the amount of time, not full days. We have Kindergarten then Pre-Primary then Year One. I think you have it differently in the states? anyways.... I do have strong views that a child needs to start an education as soon as possible. It is well known that a child learns and retains a lot in the first few years of life! I started home schooling my children the year they turned 3 and they were more than ready for "Proper School" when the time came! Kindergarten is an option here in Australia. Our schooling begins with Pre-Primary. In saying that though.... there are a lot of Kindergartens here teaching to the Pre-Primary curriculum, and many thousands of Day Care Centres doing the same! Age 4 is a nice age to start "Proper" school, I think!. :-)

It should be 3 to 3 1/2 hours should be alright. Beyond that it will be torchure for chilodren to stay at school. In Bangalore most schools adopt this, but there are schools which keep it from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.!!

Deffinately should be required. :) They need to know so much before 1st grade. Here you have to pay for full days so we'll just stick with half day. I wish they'd have pre-k thru the schools here but they don't so no pre-school for us.

Homeschool them, the public schools seem to be getting worse anyways. Just read a mylot thread about some teacher who had a real axegrind against a kid who did nothing wrong (supposedly wrote outside the line but didn't at all). But for what its worth, you kid does get the social interaction, I'm just sad to see kindergarten kids dressing like thugs and prosti-tots (yea I've seen them -_-).

Yes they should definitly be required to go. I agree that it should be an all day thing as well. Though maybe just half day for a week or two to get them used to it and then all day. It's amazing how many kids who don't go and then struggle the rest of their elementary school years because of it. It is also causing first grade teachers to not only try and teach children who went to kindergarten how to better their reading but also teach children who never went to kindergarten how to read from the very beginning. That's way too much on one teacher.

I definitely think that they should be required to go to kindergarten. It is so important to get them ready for the rest of their schooling years. They learn not only the basics for subjects, but also social skills. I think that full day is the best. My boys went 1/2 day because that was all that was offered. I thought that the day was too short. When my daughter hit kindergarten, they went to all day. It was great. She was reading by the time she went to 1st grade.

I think they should be required to go. Maybe if the kids are still a little freaked out in the beginning doing a week (or two?) of half days then all day after that. Kindergarten is important in education. It really does help.
