Chocolate Covered Snacks?

I am going to a gathering next week and would like to bring a snack for everyone. Rather than the standard cookies I was thinking of making a chocolate covered candy type thing. I remember when I was younger my mom made something called "Haystacks". It was chocolate covered crunchy chow mien noodles (this was also a great way to use up those things you got from the take-out place). Does anyone else have a recipe like this for a chocolate covered snack? I'd love to bring a variety of things.

chocolate covered chow mein? I have never heard of that. I love chocolate covered strawberries, raisins, and nuts. All of it is delicious. Now for a recipe, I dont have any. You can search online for one though, once you decide what you want to cover with chocolate.

There are a million things that taste good when you coat them in chocolate! When I made haystacks with my mother, we also used to raid the whole kitchen to try to find things we could dip, mix in, or whatever. Here are some ideas: Rice crispies and peanut butter pretzels potato chips gummy candy corn flakes granola or granola bars dried fruit popcorn I love the combination of sweet and salty. The sky is the limit with this one. Have fun.

I've got an idea! how about chocolate covered corn flakes in a cupcake paper holder? It's super easy. Just place a bunch of corn flakes to fill the cupcake holder, and then pour chocolate over it. the chocolate will join the flakes together, then you'll get a yummy snack! You can also add some chopped nuts into the mix if you feel up to it. :)

I have had Haystacks, but never made them and do not have a recipe. Go to kraftfoods.com and search haystacks (top left corner) I found two recipes there. I love chocolate covered strawberries. Just melt chocolate chips (I prefer semi-sweet) in microwave stirring every 15 seconds until melted. Then dip the strawberries in the chocolate to cover about 1/2 to 3/4 of the strawberry. Pretzels are also great dipped in chocolate. Sounds like a yummy time.

...A few years ago,I went to the designer's party before the Detroit Auto Show opened. There were different rooms with different foods. The dessert room had at least 40 different tables set up. ...One dessert that I have been making ever since were the chocolate covered pretzel rods. They were dipped into chocolate and then rolled on different kinds of nuts, candy pieces like crushed peppermint and other hard candies. The sweet and salty combination was really good. They are even good just pretzel and chocolate"." ...Also, I had a bag of small pretzel sticks that got broken, so I mixed them with nuts, raisins and poured melted chocolate over it. Then I spooned this onto waxed paper to cool. Turned out great. ...Another recipe uses the square pretzels that look like windows. Lay them out on a cookie sheet, place a hersey's kiss on each one, place in 350` oven for about 5 minutes and then push an M&M or another pretzel down on top. Yumm! ...Chocolate! It's not just for breakfast anymore! ...Peace be with you. =(^;^)= Della
