Plain/Bland Food

I see a lot of discussions about unusual food, spicy food, or even favorite foods. But what about plain food? What is the most bland thing you've ever eaten? To me it would be plain oatmeal. I know you can add things to it, but it still tastes plain and unremarkable to me. What about you?

I think next to oatmeal, the next winner for bland/plain food is farina...funny you should mention oatmeal though, I had that as a "snack" later in the day, but added cinnamon, sugar, sliced apple and raisins...otherwise, to me oatmeal is too tasteless to eat

Isn't something? I cannot think of any food that I consider to be bland. I eat my oatmeal plain. Maybe I just know that these foods are better for me so I don't see them as bland.

And that is the very attitude I want to have! I'm trying very hard to change my mindset.

I tried some of the food once at a nursing home, because I was in a class there, and they offered us free lunch. I really didn't want anything, but my instructor said we should try it, to see what the residents had to eat. I took a little bit of whatever it was, and found it to be the mushiest, blandest, tasteless thing I've ever had. I wasn't even sure what it was. I suppose people could live on it, but I would never want to. I remember wishing I could take over the job of cooking for those poor people. Nobody complained about the food, they just ate it, sometimes after some prompting, and some people would only eat a few nibbles of their food.

Good grief! I know as we get older our taste buds disappear, but not to that degree. I'm just glad they have you working there. From what I've gathered from previous discussions, you might just be the nicest one there.

Ok, how about things that come in a box such as instant potatoes? now, i dont mean the name brand, they are usually decent (i fix them on occasion) but im talking about the generic kind. They taste like straight cardboard!!!! It doesnt seem to matter how much you "doctor" it up, its still like eating cardboard with a dash of salt, pepper, garlic salt, etc.

I am still ok with oatmeal. To me, the most plain & bland food would be plain porriage. This is the food I eat only when I am sick. Any other day, I would not touch it unless I have a lot of toppings added to it.

ha ha.:) It would probably be plain oatmeal or plain grits for me too. I also don't care for plain pasta and I know several people that can eat pasta with nothing on it at all. Yuck.

Weetabix has to top it. It tastes like cardboard! Like tomb-stone shaped chipboard come to think of it! I can't understand how anyone can stomach it. I tried eating it once when on a diet but it was so yucky i think i abandoned the box halfway. :((((((

I've never heard of it. But I think a prerequisite for diet food is that it is inedible, LOL. We'd surely lost weight then!

I'm sorry but seriously I've not encountered anything that plain that I've disliked. Plain oatmeals, plain rice or pasta, Even tofus are pretty good. If I was to really reach down and dig deep to come up with an answer it would have to be seaweed. That is the plainest thing, but I've come to really like it, so I think I'm back at square one! O_o
