Would you tell them or keep it,saying to yourself "its their own fault".As for me,i would tell them, because it comes out of their own pocket later when theres change missing in the cash.Plus the guilt would drive me crazy!.What would you REALLY do.

I know what I would really do because I have done it several times. If I know that I have been given too much change or charged the wrong amount, I would definitely tell the cashier. Once I was shopping and since I had mentally calculated the amount in my cart, I knew approximately how much the total of my purchases should be. When they were done ringing them up and bagging them, the cashier announced to me a total that was a full $7 less than what I had calculated. I knew my math was not that bad so I told her she had missed something. Truthfully, I think she was a little upset at having to go through all the bags and go over every item until she found the one she had missed. If I don't know they have given me the wrong amount, then there is nothing I can do, but if I know, I can't leave because in the end it hurts my integrity and I don't really profit from it. If you do something dishonest, you are the one who stands to lose the most - your self-respect.

Your just like me!Before i get to the cash i know exactly how much ive bought for.I bring so much cash money with me and i know i will have enough without having to use my bank card.Im under by around 3.49-4.30.My boyfriend cant believe it.I do all the shopping in the house and after awhile you get use to it.Why should she really care about going back through the bags, maybe she DIDNT care about loosing the money.Thankyou for your response!

I think mostly that she thought I was crazy for telling her about it. They don't expect it, but you would at least think they would appreciate it.

It doesn't always come out of their pocket. I have worked in places where the cashier was just disciplined (in writing) and where the cashier did have to pay it back. Personally, I would give it back. I went to Mexico with a friend awhile back and the cashier at our hotel gave my friend her full $20.00 plus her change from the $20 for her purchase. The cashier never picked the original $20 off the counter. I was opening my mouth to tell the cashier that she should keep the $20 and my friend said Shhhhhh....and kicked my leg! I was quite appalled at her behavior and told her so. She said the same thing you referred to, "It's her own fault!" People make mistakes in counting and if my friend made the mistake she would hope the person was more honest than she and give her the money back. Needless to say, I didn't associate with this person much after that incident.

To be truthful I would have it given back before I even had a chance to think about it. I once paid for an item and was given back change for a 20 dollar bill I thought I had paid with a ten. I told the clerk I had given him a ten not a twenty he was sure I had given him a twenty. I went out side to get in the car but was so sure that he had made a mistake thati had to go back and try to convince him that he had given me too much change. any way his supervisor came and she counted his till and sure enough He had given me the right change. No way could I keep what wasn't mine.

I'm a bit compulsive...where I have to do something or it will drive me nuts...so yes, I'd have to take it back otherwise I'd go nuts thinking about it. Have a good day!! AT PEACE WITHIN
